I´m thinking of going red for autumn
I am thinking of dying my hair a natural looking red or auburn for the autumn (fall for those across the pond). I am asking if any of you guys have done this and what was the outcome. I know that if I go to the hairdressers they will assure me that everything will work out fine and will more than willing to take my €€€€€ from me.
At the moment it is blond, from too much time in the sun, I am not saying that it is natural blond but it has gone alot blonder from the sun and sea.
Also as I´m Irish it could not be too bad, could it ????
So I need to hear the horror stories and the success stories to help me decide.
Thanks in advance.

my original color is very dark brown, but ive been dying my hair in shades of red for over ten years now, the reason i say shades is as much as i love auburn the upkeep is alot, red fades very fast, the fastest of all the colors,(discuss with your hairdresser if your going to one or read online ways to keep the color longer and prevent fading they sell creams and glazes to help) have some fun but before you do just read up on different shades and ways to prevent fading. i bet you will look great.

Terrific! I love changing hair color and do it more often than polite society thinks is appropriate.
Look carefully at your skin tones, it will help you decide on warm or cool red tones. Yep, even hair color comes in both. Definitely will need to take your 'natural' color and your latest colored hair into consideration.
Bucca gave you great advice. Reds do not hold as well as other colors, by the same token they don't quite go away at the end as easily as other colors either. It all has to do with pigments that can be used to color. The details won't matter to you (chemistry that your hair colorist will be well aware of) but it pays to have a heads up before you give it a go.
It's hair! It should suit your personality, if you feel like red is you this time of year, I say go for it! It's all about the fun!

I'm a natural red head. I've spent most of my teenage years and early 20's dying my hair various shades. Purple and black as a teenager, blond in my 20's. I now have learned to love my natural colour. All the darker tones I tried looked awful, but the lighter colours suited my skin tone.
Choose the colour carefully, and look after it once it's done as it lasts a whole lot longer.

Make sure your colorist is capable of making it look natural. Red is the easiest color to make look fake, or should I say, it is the hardest color to make look natural. If you are Irish, I would think you would look great with red hair.
I am a natural red head and went through a period of time that I wanted blonde hair. I have a natural blonde streak on the underside of my hair and I wanted the rest of my hair to be the same color. Never worked. I got through that stage and am happy with my natural color. I did spruce things up in the last month and I have some dark burgundy lowlights and blonde highlights

My natural hair color is a mousy brown, and so I've been a strawberry blonde for several years now,it's funny that so many people think it's my natural color, being blue eyed and fair skinned.
I'd like to add that I'd die without my hairdresser

I am getting my hair done tomorrow. I have an ashy brown for a natural with alot of red undertone. I have been every red shade known to man in the past 6 years and just in the last year decided to go with a red brown color that doesn't look to bad if my roots grow a little. I have the best colorist/cutter this side of the pond (JMO), and trust her expertise. I also am fair skinned with bright green eyes, so I usually go with something a little warmer(some coppery highlights I think she says). Anyhow, I do hope that you have a good stylist, and remember, as long as it feels right, then you'll feel confident and look good as a redhead!! Post pics if possible!

I'm naturally blonde and a few years ago went red. I had it dyed at the hairdressers but it didn't stay in long as each time it just slipped off my hair gradually. The hairdresser did warn me it would but it was nice to be a completely different colour for a while. I loved it but the upkeep was a pain.
I always think people with dark hair are lucky as they have more scope for colours to dye their hair.
I'd say go for it, it almost made me feel like a different person, cheered me up no end

I say go for it!!!! I have been a blonde..I mean a blonde/blonde (natural of course ) for most of my life. UNTIL..... 7 months ago, I decided to do something different with my hair. Went to my hairdresser and we started slowly adding low lights of auburn each visit. Now, I'm officially ALL red and absolutely love it. It makes a huge difference on my complextion...I don't look so pale in the face. And my hair is much healthier and a very very nice shine too!! Plus you save money, not having to get your roots touched up as much now.
I will never go fully blonde again, but I am thinking of adding some tiny carmel lights now.
Maybe take baby steps by adding a little at a time so it's not such a shock all at once.
Let us know what the outcome is

That´s what I have been thinking about doing, I once had redish hair but it was during the summer a few years ago and it not last very long. Also I need a really good hair cut so it will be a complete make-over.
Are lowlights the reverse of highlights ?

Yep!! When I was a full blonde, every once in a while I had to get low lights put in so there was some dimension there. And not all bleach blonde!! Right now I am a reddish brown color and love it!!!!
