I was 9 and both my father and I were upset. We visited Graceland but the house wasn't open yet. Now I take my father to the Collingwood Elvis Festival (the world's largest one) every year.

I was 7 and I can remember my mom coming home and she looked like she had been crying. She said Elvis had died. It was very quiet around the house for a few days except for the tv coverage that she watched constantly. Long live the KING!

I was 11 years old and I remember that my dad was cooking hamburgers out on our barbecue grill, so my mother, dad and I were outside. The Baptist Preacher and his wife, who lived next door to us, came over and told us about it as soon as they had heard the story on the evening news.

I was 17, at work in California. My co-worker came in the office crying, which I thought was odd. I think that is the only reason I remember. Mom and Dad didn't play Elvis records at all. Now that I live in Mississippi, I have a much greater appreciation for who he was.
