Basket for grown kids or partner?

So hubby says I'm a bit over the top. Naturally he's wrong and I've come here to prove my point!

Our baby boys are 23, 21 and 19. Yes, I do acknowledge that in some circles this does make them grown men. The eldest has been in the military since he was 18. The second owns his own home so no chance he'll come and live with 'mommy' again. The baby recently moved back 'YAY!!' but it's not likely to last for long as he's saving to buy his own place as well.

I like to spoil them just a bit, now and then. I send them fun cards through-out the year, for no reason and of course for holidays! St. Nick stockings, Halloween goodies, Valentine's etc. And now it's Easter.

Now before you get the wrong idea. I'm not all that 'sweet' of a mom. For example, Last year, Billy, my eldest got an Easter basket full of chocolate, cookies, etc. mixed with cumbs, rubber mouse, rubber bugs, some of the pkgs were slightly opened and sort of rubbed...bitten...so it looked as if the nasties might have gotten into them. This is all way too much fun! I don't want to end the tradition.

DH says they're grown up it's time to let some of this go. I say ...why?... So the baskets will be a few days late!I can live with that!

What do you do?

Re: Basket for grown kids or partner?

Well I say if you get enjoyment and fun out of it then why not

I don't have any kids to give to but I am 35 and my MIL gives me an Easter Egg every year! Is nice to give things to people and especially to have fun with your parents. When I phone home and my dad thinks it will be me he always answers the phone saying something silly and when it's my birthday he phones and sings happy birthday to me - it's the small things that mean the most and I bet your boys love getting your wee surprises!

Well, I am 26 and my brother is 28, we go over to our parents for Easter, and not only do we still color easter eggs the day before, but my parents still hide them and us kids and our bf/gf have to hunt for them! We also have to find our easter baskets too. It is still fun though! As long as you guys have fun with it, you should keep up the tradition!

Never had kids but used to do baskets for the ex until we got divorced. He always seemed to enjoy it. I say if it makes you happy, go for it.

Only one of mine now wants chocolates so I make easter gift bags now with Boxers, deodorant spray, and stuff for the boys, and for my daughter she got underwear socks, body butter and body scrub. Plus they got a playstation 2 game to share the kareoke one.

Re: Basket for grown kids or partner?

I don't have kids so I can't comment on GIVING however from my perspective as an adult with a parent.......

I personally would feel "ODD" if my dad were to give me a "traditional" Easter Basket and all that it entails. Especially if I were in my later teens-early 20's. A nice card with a gift certificate, maybe a large candy bar etc....but not a *for-real* Easter basket! But that's just me.

Ok. Asked hubby who is 38 how he would feel. He said EMBARRASSED. And he would NOT want others to know IF it did happen.

Now if my hubby were to get me something SHINY then he could put it in ANY type of "basket" he wanted! Sadly, that's not likely to happen.

Re: Basket for grown kids or partner?

Even though they're "grown" men, who say's that they don't still like the tradition you've started? I agree with everyone else - if you enjoy it and it makes you happy - then definitely do! Maybe try baskets with something like cheese & crackers, wine (or some type of beverage they like), salmon with capers, cream cheese and some type of bagels or crackers, etc. I'll probaby give my DD baskets even when she reaches adulthood as well! Have fun!

By God, you're their mother and if it makes you happy then do it, girl!!! Unless they specifically ask you not to do it anymore, then there's not a thing wrong with it! Personally, the rubber mice, bugs, etc... is a brilliant idea and might actually have to copy your idea for Dh's easter basket!
