Our nasty visitor!
When I got home from work this evening I was hungry so I went to the kitchen to fix something to eat..... Well, I was watching the cat out of the corner of my eye and she kept jumping up on the dishwasher. I looked a bit closer and when I realized what the kitty was trying to play with, I nearly fainted! It was a HUGE, HUGE scorpion!!!!!!!
I was the only one home besides the dogs and kitty and I screamed so loud that Duke started to howl and Duchess and the kitty ran to the other room! I put an oven mitt on and grabbed my some plastic tongs and put the nasty visitor in a jar.... I just keep thinking that since I found this one, there must be some others nearby! I have to check all my shoes before I put them on and the bed before I go to sleep. Geez, what happens if the dogs and kitty get bit and I am not there! The joys of living in the desert!

The last house we lived at had them. We are less than a mile from it and we don't now. Isn't it weird? We had this powder to spray around the outside of the house and baseboards inside and we would find them dead at the doorways all the time. We were just talking about this yesterday on the way home. What a coincidence. I never killed them, my bf did because I'm like Jill and can't even kill a spider without freaking out. I had to try to get a June bug out of the house and not squish it because of the nasty juice they leak. After a few squeels out of me, my bf came and did it for me.

Sorry! I didn't mean to scare anyone! Jill, I don't think scorpions are a problem where you are at! Sleep tight!

ew ew ew ew ew ew ew!!!!!!!!!!
I hate those things!!! DH used to live in Nevada, and he thinks they are sooooo cool. Scorpions are the only thing keeping me from leaving the snow and nasty winter weather here. I can tolerate spiders and june bugs, but if I saw a scorpion in my house, I would pass out and die!!!!!!!!

Oh, I would've flipped!!!! The worst thing I've come in contact with in my house is a trantula. I didn't even know tarantulas existed in Oklahoma, but apparently, they do!! It was 2:30 in the morning and I was awaken by the sensation of something crawling on my neck, and sprung up out of bed, arms flying every which direction. I flipped on the light and there the bas*#@% was sitting on my bed staring at me. He did not move, just sat there. So once I regained my composure, I found a plastic cup with a lid and scooped the damn thing up and saved it until dh (fiance at the time) came over to get rid of it for me.
One of my daycare families lives in the country and they have scorpions around their place. I never knew we had scorpions in Oklahoma either until I met them I'm so naive!

They spray, but not for scorpions- only for the bugs the scorpions eat.... I guess the scorpions are very difficult to kill. They can supposedly live for 8 months without food or water and can make themselves as skinny as a credit card to squeeze through small spaces.... Unfortuantely I can't leave the southwest although I would move back to Michigan in a heartbeat!!!!!!!
I was watching a news special on them the other day and they said that there is no real way to prevent them. Made me feel really good!

We get all kinds of critters in Tucson too! I had just taken Wil out on a walk when she went nuts at our drive way. I looked under my car to see 3 tiny snakes trying to shimmy up my driveway. It is very steep and so they would go a few inches and then slide down. Wil has also cornered a few turantulas and tons of lizards and geckos. The weather is beautiful...I guess that is why we stay!
