How long do boxers live?

I know have seen this question on here before but, I never stopped to read the post. My dh and I where talking about our two dogs and where wondering how long they might live. Does anyone know the average life span of boxers? I thought I had read 8 to 10 yrs.

Thanks,
Jamie

Depending on what book you read and what part of the world you're in, the average is usually quoted as either 8-10 years, or 10-12 years. Not sure that any of it is based on any more than a rough estimate though (ie. no stats).

Just wanted to let you know that our last Boxer Poppy was a very old lady, she lived until she was 13 years and ten months old, and she was still as mad and puppy like until the last few months of her life.... sadly we lost her to a brain tumour, but our vet said it was really unusual for a Boxer to live this long... most have a life span of about ten years,I have heard of some dogs living to the age of 14!!! however long your Boxer lives for, I really think that he or she will give you all the happiness you could ever hope for in owning a dog.

Donte & Deacon's dad is 10 years old & still going string, their uncle (dad's full brother) is 13 & seems half that age. I think it has alot to do with how the dog is cared for during it's life, & bloodlines.

Thanks for the replys. I am just concern because the two boxers that I had (my father's dogs) growing up both passed at age five. One was from heart problems and the other was from cancer. Now that my boy Zeus is at 5 1/2 and above standards for a male boxer I am just concerned about him. He is a heatlhy and happy boy so I guess I dont really have much to worry about.

Our boxer Tucker was 12 when we put him to sleep due to cancer. If not for the cancer I think he would have lived quite longer.

Wink

Roxie our white boxer will be 13 Nov 9th and she's doing great, she's slowed down over the years of course, but she loves her brother and sister and does still romp around the yard. Roxie's Mother lived to be fifteen, so we cross our fingers

My Me-Tu was nine when we lost her to a brain tumor. If I had known what I know now I would have had her spayed when I got her and possibly saved her a little longer. However, she may still have had a shortened life because there is some evidence that she was a puppy mill breeder and when the rescue found her she was starving, dehydrated and tied to a tree in the middle of winter. That has to take a tol on a life. We only got to have her for five years but she was a great friend. I hope Freya lives to be a ripe old age.
