3 Month old puppy weight

Hi Everyone,

I recently took my new 3 month old Flashy Brindle Boy to the vet for his puppy shots and to get weighed in. He weighed in at 24 pounds and appears to me to be pretty big - well, the vet technician that was administering the shots says "I don't think he is going to be very big - he appears kind of small" - I was shocked - he has already exceeded the weight of both my female boxers when they were that age.

Not that we would love him any less if he turned out to be on the small side but her comment just seemed a little premature to me - to make such a statement when he is only 3 months old and already 24 pounds - am I over reacting or should I be concerned that he is underweight/size????

Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks All!!!

I don't know anything about weight really but our 4 month old male only weighs 22 lbs. So I wouldn't say your puppy is small.

Peanutsmom,

Thanks for responding. I also thought he was a pretty normal weight which is why I was sooo shocked that she would say that to me. I guess time will tell just how big he will be.

Have a Great Day!

When I took Boomer for his last round of shots, the computer calculated his age at 3 months/19 days and he weighed in at 25 lbs, and my vet was talking about how big of a boy he was going to be. Weird, huh, that two vets would say totally opposite things about almost the exact same weight?

I just took my 10 week old to the vet on Friday and he weighed 20 lbs. I asked the vet how big he might get and she said she couldn't tell at this age and unless she saw the parents. The vet tech obviously doesn't know boxers!!!!

Thanks everyone for the helpful comments. I would have to agree that this particular Vet Tech does not know Boxers - my husband and I were certain he was going to be a big boy.

Both my females weigh about 65lbs full grown and my actual vet warned me that they were approaching being overweight - this shocked me also. I feed them Wellness dog food and they are free fed but they certainly never gorge themselves. So ever since this comment about my girls approaching being considered overweight - I now make sure I measure out their food and when it is gone - its gone for the day (poor babies)!!!

Having Boxer babies is just as much worries as raising the skinkids!!! We love our furbabies sooo much and really want to do the best for them - but sometimes we just don't know what or who to believe as far as what is best???

My little guys was also 24 lbs. at 12 weeks. He's now 25 lbs. at 13 weeks. His father is a large boxer and the vet told me when I took him in at 9 weeks that he'll proably be pretty large too. So I would say yours is probably gonig to be on the large side too.

3 month old puppy weight

At 3 months, Olivia weighed 18 pounds. Now at 10 months, she is a tall, skinny 53 pounds. I would think that your boy baby sounds on the large side. But what do I know, and what does that Vet tech know- more importantly. I bet he turns out big!

i took my puppy last week to the vet he's around 9 weeks and he only weighed 13 lbs. i told the vet that im a little worried since he looked like a little skinny. the vet told me it's a normal weight and that he'll be bigger that most of the other boxer

i guess i'll wait for 3 more weeks and check if he gain some weight. you mentioned your boxer is around 23 lbs at 3 months well i guess i will just have to compare it after 3 more weeks. i guess my baby boy got a lot of catching up to do

do you guys know if having big paws and longer legs while there still a puppy is a sign that he'll grow big

I just took my 3.5 Month old Dempsey in, and he weighed a whopping 33.7 lbs. I thought maybe instead of a boxer we got a moose. Is this too big? He often times looks skinny, too. He's had all kinds of health issues from tape worms to spider bites to clogged colons(he likes my dress socks). I hope he's on the right track now.

No need to worry

I don't think you should worry. His weight seems very normal. We have two flashy brindles from the same litter. The male was 17lbs at 7 weeks old and at 3 months he was 27lbs. Our female weighed in at 22lbs at the same 3 month check up. He towers over her and is almost as big as the 2 year old male we have. It's like a pregnancy, each one is different.

all pups are different.... my lylah is right at 6 (well on the 18th of june) months and weighs about 41-49 lbs now... when i got her at 6 weeks she was only like 7.5 lbs (she was the runt of the litter too) at 2.5 mnths she was 11 lbs... 3.5 mnths 18 lbs 4.5 mnths she started having major growth spurts and put on a considerable amount and is now probably over that 41 lbs... that she weighed in at 5 months her parents are quite large.. mom is 75 lbs and the daddy 95 lbs... her father was huge.. he could jump and clear a 6-7 foot high fence... sadly he did do this and hung himself before the owners could get to him.. he died trying to protect his pups he was a gentle loveing giant... and will be sadly missed by his owners.. so your pup could get to be huge or average just depends on what god has planned
