Unhappy

I have been told that there is a type of sexualy transmitted disease among dogs! I was also told that if I wanted to stud my male I needed to have the famales checked for this- does anyone know what they are talking about- what is the name of the disease and what does the disease do to the dog? How expensive is it to treat- is it treatable, is there a cure- etc...

This is called "Brucellosis". If your male is exposed to this it can render him sterile, and can cause reproduction failure in the female. There is a simple blood test that can determine if the female is infected. To my knowledge there is no effective ro treatment for prevention or cure.
Hope this helps.

Thank you

Yes this does help alot- I am in the process of finding me another vet! He didn't know what I was talking about when I said the doggy sexually transmitted disease. He frustrates me- because he turns it around like I am a doggy hypochondriac and am just an overly concerned mama.Listen to what else he's told me:
First he told me that it doesn't matter if there are chicken by products in food, its all the same anyway- he doesn't know anything about BARF feeding and he told me my dog "looked ok" when he was running a very high temp and he ended up having an enlarged prostate!! (What do vets have to do to become licensed around here?) He also - get this! told me the diet I have Titus on is not as effective as the Science diet they sell there in the office- I feed Titus Iams Large breed, plus I give him 2 eggs every other day with 1/2 cup cottage cheese and shredded carrot! My breeder recomended suplementing this way- and he said it was the same as his prescription science diet- which contains chicken by products- thank you! I'm just venting sorry- he also told me I didn't need to give Titus an echo cardio gram or Holter test - his heart "sounds" healthy. Can you believe this guy? I wouldn't let him neuter my pig!!!

Sounds like you are doing the right thing by looking for a new vet. I can't believe he would say the heart tests are not needed since his heart 'sounds' good. Maybe you should advise him to pick up any Boxer book and read it.

Just wanted to add, the male should be checked for brucellosis as well. It is not only sexually transmitted.
