is colitis passed through breeding and is it hereditery?

It is more common in boxers than you would probably think.
Some *lines* tend to have more problems than others.....and mainly where I have seen colitis is from BYB's & especially Commerical breeders. I'm not saying that a reputable breeder might not end up producing a pup that ends up with colitis, but the more severe cases of it is from people that shouldn't have been breeding in the first place.

My personal opinion....yes, it is hereditary or at least their seems to be.

I just wanted to reply on the colitis.
We have a 14month old female boxer named Angle, she was diagnosed with colitis, she has the worst case that a boxer can have, she is on two different medications and a special diet, she lost seven pounds in two weeks, so far she seems to be responding to the medication she is on, but still looks very thin, our THIRD vet is the one who diagnosed it, we spent countless hours at the first two vets, the first two vets said it was normal for puppies to get diareaha and the blood that came with it was just because she has an irritated bowel. We choose the first vet because the breeder that we used had been using this breeder for a long time, so us thinking that this vet knew something about boxers we stayed there, boy were we wrong.
We have notified the breeders of this and there response was none of the other dogs have anything like this. We also informed them and gave them a copy of the information that we have, explaining that they need to STOP breeding these two dogs, there reply was NO. My biggest complaint it that not only are they hurting the dogs but the families that have them. Angle is a part of out family just like our kids and I am not looking forward to the day that she is know longer with us, nor am I looking forward to telling my seven year old daughter that Angle (her playmate, friend) is going to go to doggie heaven.
