Gas Cures?

Anyone have any ideas or cures for gassy Boxers, or any dogs for that matter?

Gas is caused by maldigestion (though fair to say, boxers are more prone than many breeds). The most effective answer then, is to remove the cause That is, to try different foods - and different food types (kibble will almost always cause more gas than natural foods, for example, due to the extremely high grain or vegetable content) till you find something that reduces the amount of gas.

In masking symptoms, things like probiotics usually help a bit. That can come in the form of plain nautral yoghurt (not ones with sugar, and especially not with artificial sweetners, many of which are toxic to dogs) or kefir, or just as a probiotic from a health food store.

My two get prozyme sprinkled on their food and I have to say that they rarely have gas...I feed them Fromm dry and evangers canned, so whether it's the prozyme or the food somethings working!!!

Our saving grace was an acidophilus capsule sprinkled over each meal (2 meals a day) and ProZyme as well. Neither of my dogs have gas with this remedy.

Great!
do you get; acidophilus, and prozyme at the health food store? And are they both safe for dogs no matter what brand you get, or is there a certain kind to get?

Um ProZyme IS for dogs. I get mine online, I've never seen it in stores. I get it from amazon online.

I get my probiotic online as well as it's the cheapest I've found at puritansale, but you can get it at Wal-Mart or Target are probably the cheapest places in the vitamin aisle. I don't go to health food stores personally...too expensive for me. Yes the probiotic is safe for dogs regardless of brand, it's just the good bacteria in yogurt without the dairy and in a more concentrated form.

Eliminating wheat and barley (closely related to wheat) from my dog's diet help immensely.

It has for both of mine. That with the probiotic. I hear them once in awhile but there's never any smell anymore. My female used to be BAD I mean we'd have to open windows. Haven't smelled her since we started ProZyme and a probiotic and it's been awhile now...a year or so, and I work from home so she's with me pretty much 24/7.
