Smile What is the average size of a boxer?

We rescued Winston about 6 months ago.We don't know anything about his Bloodlines but he is very tall for his age.He measures 29 at withers and weighs about 65 Lbs. His 1 year birthday is March 25 2007. We have him on a healthy diet and he is doing great. How much bigger is he going to get? He seems very large for a Boxer. He does have a micro- chip implanted in his neck.I guess the breeder or who knows who put it there for ID purposes. we just want to know how much bigger he will grow? He seems unusually large
compared to the boxers I've raised before.
Thanks,
Carmine

He will now start to fill out at his age, do a search on standard size of Boxers & that should give you some idea. He does seem a little tall.

Re: What is the average size of a boxer?

Hi is indeed enormously tall - more like the size of a bullmastiff than a boxer, in fact.

It is hard to speak of "averages" in this breed - but we can talk of correct. Per the breed standard, a male boxer should be between 22-25" tall fully grown. If your guy is over 29" at only a year old, then he's very far in excess of what he 'should' be, and unlikely to have finished growing yet (he might sneak another inch or two in there). That being the case, I'd even wonder if he might not in fact be a bullmastiff or boxer/bullmastiff cross (said without having seen him, of course, but the two breeds aren't that dissimilar in looks).

He also sounds incredibly light weight for that height. Of course, at only a year, he's got a lot of filling out to do - but even so, 65lb is about what you'd expect a 24" dog to weigh.

Can I find out thru the inplanted micro chip if he is a cross breed? How does one get info off of it?I must say he looks like a boxer 100%.Maybe I will post a picture of him for your viewing.Someone told me that there is a German breeder that breeds very large Boxers.
Thanks,
Carmine

Re: What is the average size of a boxer?

No, there is no way to find out if he is a purebred boxer. Certainly not from a microchip. If you happened to have access to the dogs named as his parents on his pedigree, you could determine whether or not they are indeed his parents. But you still can't determine breed.

As for German breeders breeding large - not if they're breeding correct The German (actually FCI) breed standard stipulates height also. And if one were to make a generalisation about size, then one would also have to say that (broadly speaking) boxers bred in Germany and most other places in Europe are less tall than many in North America. Frequently they have more "bone" - as in, are often more solid or stocky - but they are not normally taller.

Re: What is the average size of a boxer?

I believe that you could get the info off the chip from a vet, Just a guess, since I've never had Diesel chiped.....so not sure how it really works. 29" seems like a very tall boxer.

But then again mine is a example of bad breeding with his size & weight. being outside the standard in both.
