Thumbs up Time out is working for daughter

Rogue is very rough & completely ignorant when it come to my teenage daughter (unless she has a treat ).

So I told my daughter to first try the redirect thing, then if Rogue won't listen, & is getting too rough, to just put her in a time-out.

So now my daughter says 'Bed', & puts Rogue in her crate for 5mins. Then she lets her out & goes through the routine again if needed.

Now Rogue is coming out of her time-outs & acting calmer around my daughter.

Rogue is sooo bossy when it comes to my daughter, she ranks herself as higher in the pack. Now with this method in place there are improvements.

It was harder training my daughter to work with Rogue. Finally she is listening to me, & it is now working for her.

Question

I didn't think you were supposed to use the crate as a timeout spot b/c you want them to see the crate as a safe place, not a place for punishment??? Just wondering cause we are trying the timeout thing too.

Thanks

All I can add is that using the crate as a 'Time-Out', has not made it a unhappy place for Rogue, she still goes in & out of it freely, & quite happily sleeps in it too.

She eats her treats in there as well. We give her a treat, & say - 'Take it to bed Rogue', & she does.

Sounds like Rogue is learning where she ranks. Good for your daughter..I'm sure she likes a calmer Rogue!

If you only put them in there for a couple of minutes, they don't see it as a bad place...

We always use Cooper's crate for his time outs... it helps with calming him down. Usually he will just go in there an lay down... We haven't had any problems getting him to go in at any other times. We do make sure that we say TIME OUT in a stern voice before placing him in there for that reason.

Glad to hear Rogue and your daughter are settling things out between the two of them. Titan's time outs are in another room, he goes in and sits and waits until we call him out. The whole crate thing didn't work for us at all.
