Baby saliva on toys/bones

I read in a magazine today (it was at the hairdressers and I'm afraid I can't quote who suggested this) but.....it said to put some of the baby's saliva on the dogs toys or bones because it will "show" the dog that the leader eats first and therefor learn to respect the baby as a leader. I am wondering if anyone has ever tried or even heard of this????? Our baby is due in a few weeks and anything that helps to communicate to the dogs that the baby is not a new toy for them will be tried!!!!

One thing that I heard when our daughter was due, was to bring home a receiving blanket (or something that smells like your baby) and let your dogs get a scent of it. We did try it and it worked great for us. Both of our Boxers were so gentle with her from day one and we never had any problems with them, unless you count wanting to kiss her all the time a problem!

Thanks for the tips, we have already put out the pack n play and the swing. Watching Cooper the first time we put the music on with the swing was hysterical. He just stood there tipping his head from side to side. So nightly I turn it on for a little while. Other furniture is out too, like the changing table and bassinet. He has dutifully sniffed every item coming in the door. I'm sure we will find we'll just have another set of watchful eyes on our baby at all times. We also plan to wrap a blanket around the baby and then bring home for the doggies to sniff before myself and the baby come home.

when i brought my son home we had a german shepard and he was all nosy about what was in the carrier. well we went into the bedroom and put my son on the bed and king(shepard) comes over and gives the baby a sniff and all is fine then it happened the baby cried well you never saw a dog run out of a room so fast in your life we laughed our heads off he kept sticking his head in and pulling it out checking to see if the baby was still there. he became his watcher and went everywhere with my son. but that first day was really funny.
