Rosco came to us about a year ago at the age of 2 from good ol' Craigslist. I was a little nervous about getting a big dog but he quickly worked his way into my heart.
The first week my family ....adults, big kids and a couple of my grandchildren were all out on the deck. My 2 year old granddaughter stumbled and fell and Rosco darted in front of the stairs and prevented her from falling down. We were all grateful of course and wondered if it was just luck or what.
Over this past year he has been amazing but tonight....well he just showed what a remarkable dog he was!!
The same granddaughter, now 3 is spending the night with me. I was downstairs and she went upstairs....not normally a biggie as there are toys up there and my own younger children, age 16 and 11 were up there. I hear Rosco barking like crazy and am slightly annoyed as I think he wants to go out because our neighbors must have let their dogs out.
After a few minutes I go up to give him a stern talking to and the door to the deck is open, he's inside and my granddaughter was crying. Here she had went OUTSIDE and fallen down the deck stairs!!
I had a split second of wanting to just hug Rosco for his alert behavior but of course went and hugged my little sweetie granddaughter. She wasn't hurt except for a few red spots on her back so all is well but I am just so thrilled with Rosco. He wasn't even outside but standing at the open door....it's like he knew where to stand and how to bark to alert me. If I had been paying better attention I would have realized his bark was different immediately. He will bark outside if him and the dogs are all out but if he's inside he will just scratch at the door to go out. He'll bark at the front window if people are outside but he never stands at the sliding glass doors and barks...except for tonight.
I will of course be getting a latch or lock for that door!
He just continues to amaze me. He's been so good with all the little grandchildren (except for some unwanted face licking from time to time) and he seems to know that he can play harder with my husband and not so hard with me or anyone else. He has learned pretty fast that he can't jump on me when I come home from work (he used to be horrible about that) and now he just gets so excited that his ol' butt almost causes him to lose his balance from wiggling so hard.
Well thanks for listening to my post....I just wanted to share my happy and blessed mood
