My Girlfriend is Pregnant and Just Brought Home a 3rd Dog
She is 5 months pregnant and the dog is 9 weeks old. She fell in love with it while out and brought her home yesterday. It is a breed I have always wanted, Dog De Bordeaux. For those that don't know the breed it is a mastiff and weighs 120-145 pounds. Here is a photo.
Link to the breeder's web site removed by moderator. Please read the rules
We currently have a boxer and a shar-pei. Our house has a backyard and we are both experienced in dog training and dog care.
Anybody have any experience with puppies and babies? The good news is that I'm going to be working/studying at home until September and then she goes on maternity leave for 12 months so there will always be somebody at home for at least 16 months. The thing I'm worried about is her having her sleep broken by the puppy. The dog will be 6 months old by the time the kid is born. I'm really torn about what to do.
Moderator note: since it is more about puppies and babies, this thread is moved from the Other pets forum to the Boxers & Children forum.

thanks for moving this mod! I was going to post it in the boxers & children section but I wasn't sure.
The photo I posted wasn't from the breeder, it was just a random image I pulled off google. Next time I'll host it then post it.

i would assume that since the puppy will be six months by then it will not interrupt her sleep, but if this is you first child you're in for a BIG surprise...
literally the first two to four weeks of our sons life i don't think we got more than an hour and a half to two hours of sleep at a time that whole month.... if your wife is going to be breast feeding then it'll probably be her that will be constantly getting up with your baby to feed (a little trick... when she gets up go in there with her so she doesn't feel like she's having to do it alone, eventually she'll tell you to go back to bed )
since she'll be having to feed the baby, your best bet would be to do what you can to keep the dogs entertained and let her get as much rest as possible...
hope any of this helps

I was worried more about the dog interrupting her sleep now as a 9 week old when she should be resting.

another relevant question: Can you fit 2 people, a baby and 3 dogs in a Jeep Grand Cherokee? The 2 current dogs are used to being in the trunk (but they prefer upfront obviously).

Why not? You could put mom & baby in the backseat, 2 dogs in the trunk and one dog up front; you might even be able to fit all 3 in the back while the mastiff is still little (won't be long though, LOL). It might be a tight squeeze, but if you're going a short distance (like to the park) it shouldn't be too bad. I don't think I'd want to go on a long vacation with that set-up though

I have a Jeep and it would certainly be do-able to fit 2 adults, a child with car seat and 3 dogs in it.
Both adults in front....
Lay down one side of the back seat for the baby (leaving the other up) and then all that space in the back for the dogs. Might depend on the year though. Perhaps not all have the capability to only put down a part of the back seat?
Mine is an 08.
Mini-van is a 4 letter word (mini) LOL
