Jumping on kids

My boy is just over a year old now and although he is great with my 9 and 12 year olds when it comes to toddlers he is horrible. He jumps and knocks them over then has to be pulled off. I think we have compounded the problem by crating him when little ones are over. He is just a nut if we let him out he immediately lunges. He is good at the dog park if there are little ones around. He is normally very submissive so what gives? When he was smaller we took him to playgrounds armed with lots of treats and would let kids have him sit and give him his treat. Now that he is so big we often don't run into people willing to let their children anywhere near him. (I have actually heard people tell there kids no thats a mean dog). Any suggestions would be muchly appreciated as I am to the point where I am not wanting to have people over with kids because he goes nuts in his crate and you cant even talk over the noise. Thanks guys.

Jade has the same problem. She justs gets really excited when she sees them. My daughter just turns around and holds her hands up by her chest and Jade loses interest. With toddlers that is a little harder. I would suggest (and I am not the leading person for advice but maybe it will help) putting your pup on leash when little ones are around and rewarding good behaviour. If your pup continues to try and jump remove to another room. The kitchen always works really good for us because ther is alot less to tear up in there. Hope that helps or that someone else will give you an idea that does.

I would also suggest having your pup on a leash when you have visitors over. Bring out some tasty treats and praise like crazy when he's not jumping up. Or maybe you can try a time-out??? We do time-outs when our boys get too ramped up.

I just say (OK..time-out) and either I leave the room or I have them sit and stay for a minute or two. But would definetely keep him on a leash and close to you. He can't jump if you even have your feet on the leash or holding it pretty tight.

Good Luck..hopefully someone else may be able to help you.
