Does my dog look purebred??

Hi. I took Remy to a dog park last night and i saw a TON of boxers. As i was watching her play, i noticed that Remy looked different from the other boxers. Remy's nose/muzzle is much longer compared to other boxers. It's also not "pushed" in. She does have an underbite but her muzzle is not 1/3 of her skull. I spoke to many boxer owners at the park and a few of them asked me if my dog was purebred. I didn't know how to answer them because to my knowledge she is pure boxer. Her parents looked like pure boxers when i picked her out so I am bit confused. Maybe she got bad boxer genes?? Here are some pictures... please be honest and let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

As you note, she does not closely adhere to the boxer breed standard - and some of her features (head in particular) deviate quite some way from that which is correct for a boxer.

However, I don't see another breed staring out of her face. My general opinion is that she is probably purebred, but not well bred. That is, whomever bred her paid little attention to the need to use correct specimens as breeding stock, with the result that the offspring don't look terribly much like the breed they're supposed to be. Boxers are a young breed (as in, haven't been around very long - just 100 years or so) and unless good breeding practices are followed, it is easy to lose in just 2-3 generations, the distinctive look that characterises the breed. Dog breeds don't come about, nor are they maintained, by people breeding their pets. My guess is that that is the reason your pup looks so far from the traditional boxer, not actually because of being mixed with another breed.

She's lovely

She looks very much like our Charlie, who also has a longer nose and ears that stick out!

Our Charlie was a rescue and came to us at 13 weeks so we've no idea about her parents, but I suspect the same as Gmac has already explained she's just not been bred by people "who know what they're doing" so to speak.

We go on regular walks with other boxers from the same rescue group we volunteer for, sometimes over 30 boxers and by golly do they come in all shapes and sizes when you see so many together.

She may not looks like other boxers you meet but if she's anything like our Charlie she'll be all boxer in personality and as long as they are healthy & happy that's what matters.

Looks a lot like my Lily when she was a puppy. She didn't have that "stoved in" nose too much either. She is 2 1/2 and is just now growing into her face. She is a petite boned girl. I see all boxer in yours too! Just not standard. But we love them all the same!

I agree with the other posters. Heads are one of the first things to go when breeding Boxers.
Looks all Boxer to me and she is adorable!

Looks like my Karma, who is akc reg. There are times I have wondered about her being pure blooded, because she doesnt look like my Aries, but at this point I dont worry about it anymore, I love her dearly, and the papers say she is. Take a look at my pic and you will see she doesnt have the same face features as my male.

AKC really means squat. It's a registry body only - they have no hand in making sure the dog is bred to the boxer standard, unfortunately. Karma actually looks like she could mix with a pit or a lab, she's gorgeous regardless!

Thanks for the reassurance guys. I did get Remy from a BYB so her had no papers. Her nose did get extra elongated this pass month or so. Maybe i just began to notice it more after the dog park? You guys think her head will grow into that nose? Her body seems to grow at different rates. When i first got her, her legs grew long. Now her body is beginning to get longer. Is that "normal" for her age? BTW, she just turned 16weeks. She's about 23lbs and 16inch at the shoulders.

boxer or not

Hi, my charlie looks just like your charlie...we love him dearly, but when he was young we got asked a lot what breed was he? I have often questioned it, but my husband indicates he is all boxer. LOL. He's perfect and healthy, so we are lucky and happy.
