Smile What do you think he has mixed with him?

Hi all. I'm new to boxerworld. We adopted Apollo from the humane society last week and they called him full boxer. My parents have boxers so I don't feel he has the normal boxer look to him. I asked the vet and she thought he probably has 1/8 of something mixed with him, though it's hard to tell what. I am just curious to know if any of you have any ideas as to what is mixed with him? He's only 10 months and already 63 lbs and seems longer to me than the average boxer, though i haven't measured. His legs also remind me more of a hunting dog breed. He does have a very nice underbite though and mask so it's hard to tell if he just came from bad breeders. He definitely has a lot of the boxer personality that we love and likes to box while playing. Either way, we love him dearly! He's a fabulous dog and we are so happy to have found him! I'm asking only out of curiosity. I've posted a few pics of him in the mixed boxer gallery. Thanks!

Very hard to know or guess really. I would be inclined, like you, to think that there is something else there though. I cannot tell his size of course, but from the photos you posted I would remark that he seems to have an extremely long muzzle. Not a little long like you commonly see in boxer/lab or boxer/pit mixes, but quite substantially long. Possibly that could suggest that whatever else is there is a breed with a very long muzzle.

LOL - that's just guessing though (as is always the case when going on looks only), and genetics can produce some unusual/unexpected results. If you really wanted to know, it is possible to have him dna profiled

it definitely is long. he has long legs too, which made me think along the lines of the hunting dog breeds. it is so hard to tell! i'd definitely be interested in dna testing for fun but my husband's like there's no way we're spending money on that! who cares! haha! you never know though, i might talk him into it sometime. it'd be fun to know.

First off, what a cutie! I love his markings! I see some Dane in him, but I am certainly not an expert.

I was thinking boxer/lab. I've seen some labs with pretty long muzzles. Nevertheless he's one cute guy and I can tell you are not at all concerned that he's not full boxer but a wonderful dog for your family. Thank you for giving Apollo a forever home. You're an angel.

DNA testing is pretty affordable actually, I believe it costs anywhere from 70-100 bucks.

I have a friend that has a boxer mix that looks identical to yours but brindle. Has all the same white markings. We think she is boxer/pit mix. What ever she is mixed with she retained most of the flashy boxer markings like your apollo did.

we've wondered about that too since it's a typical mix that would be easy to miss. he's really long though. 27 inches long and 24 inches tall which would be long for both breeds i think? the vet thought he had 1/8 of something else but mainly boxer because his boxer characteristics were so strong, which makes it really hard to tell. thanks for the response!

breed

My daughter has 2 danes, his legs do look like theirs. They also have a long mussel. BIG paws. They are the sweetest breed, really nosy.
