grrr.....neighbors with dogs....grrr....

ok...allow me to rant...

When we first got Arty, we did not have our fence yet installed so he was on a run. The people behind us have a fenced in yard and have a mini yorkie. When Arty was on the run, this was not really a problem, as Arty couldn't go up to the fence anyways. So fast forward to now....

Fence is installed, and Arty has the run of the backyard. He can go right up to the fence and see this mini yorkie(they now have two). If Arty sees another dog, of course he is interested, and will check things out, but that's it. Does not bark, growl, anything. He just checks on what's going on and then usually comes back to come inside. Well, and I know this is partly my responsibility in training Arty, as he should obey the come command, but when Arty is outside, and those two yorkies see Arty, all they do is yap, growl, and when he comes up to the fence, they attempt to pee on him, or mark him, whatever you want to call it. This is 9:30 at night mind you this is also happening. These dogs just start yapping and don't stop, and of course it gets Arty excited(he is only 11 months old still). So the yorkies run back and forth along the fence, and because Arty thinks it's a game, he follows suit. And when where he is running is also an easement to help in the drain of water, it's not good. To top it off, these yorkies are outside ALL the time. At least when their owners are home, they seem to be outside. And when they are going off on Arty or the black lab, the owners don't bother to look outside or call their dogs.

Now, there is also a black lab that is next to the yorkie house. Arty and him will meet at the fence, exchange sniffs, and go about their ways. That's it, nothing big there. The yorkies do the same thing to this black lab. It's as if these yorkies don't like other dogs or just were not socialized enough.

Like I said, I know part of it is training on my part, getting Arty to disregard them and come with called. But at the same time, when he sees other dogs or anything, he is good. He is not like these two yorkies who just create havoc.

Oh...so the real reason for this rant.....I have now given Arty 7 baths/rinses off in the past 2 days.

Poor Arty, I feel bad for him having to deal with those annoying little neighbors. There's no way I could stand to live by them that's for sure. Is there any way you can put some bushes on your side of the fence to make like a hedge to block their line of sight? If nothing else I'd try to stay out there with Arty so he will stay by you and not be over near the other dogs. Sounds like your neighbors wont change their ways and take care of their dogs, so you're going to have to do something different. Give Arty some hugs and be sure to use a mild shampoo if he has that many baths in such a short time.

Poor baby. I know what you're going through because my mother's back neighbor has the same thing. Two dogs stay out all the time and any time my mom goes out on her patio, these dogs growl and bark until she goes in. It's horrible.

I've only been giving Arty a good rinse off after the first time.

Although I have had to deep clean the carpet with our steamer a few times! I gotta get him upstairs to get to the tub, and well...there's plenty of carpet for him to discolor!

Sounds like the situation we had at our old house. (Which I DO NOT miss!) Our neighbor had two Maltese. Cute little girls, but man, they never shut up when they were outside, and they would just bark bark bark at my dogs. Not in a mean way, but just continuously for no reason other than that they liked to bark. Come to think of it, even when my dogs were not out there they would just bark and bark..... Most small dogs just do that, unfortunately, and your neighbors dogs are probably so bored and getting very territorial of the fence line since they are out ALL the time. Is there any way you can put up a panel on your fence so they can't see into your yard? I can't really think of any other solution since your neighbors obviously don't care about their little dogs if they are out all the time. Hope you can figure something out.

We have the same problem with our neighbors except with them it's three yappy pugs and a husky. Unfortunatly one of their baby pugs came into our yard and was killed by our lab. They understand it can happen because they had another husky escape and kill another neighbors toy yorkie. Now luckily after two years it has finally just become a game and a good energy burner for our babies. They come into the house immediatly when called. We also make sure our fence is always in good condition. Maybe if you just give it time he'll begin to ignore it or at least not get soo riled up.
