Just moved & everyone afraid of Lily
We just moved this last weekend to these really nice luxury apartments and Lily loves it (countless Boxer burns) but when we walk her around outside, everyone with dogs walks the other way when they see her and no one says hi to us! It is killing Lily so now she pulls so hard on the leash trying to go over and say hi, people are looking at her as she is aggressive and one lady walking her dog this morning actually starting running because Lily wastrying so hard to go over to her and started coughing because of her allergies and the lady freaked like Lily was going to eat her dog!! I can't believe it! At our old apartment, Lily knew every single dog and had soo many good puppy friends but I'm worried at this new place that everyone is avoiding her and she'll have no friends to play with.
I took her to doggy day care today to let her play with some friends (2 Boxers there today!) I just feel so bad for her.

I'm sure that people warm up to her- once you start talking to people and they see just how sweet she is.
I always find myself "overexplaining" Paytons behavior, when in reality he's just a Boxer and their excitement level goes from 0 to 150 in just a few seconds. I love it!
Good luck anyhow

I know how you feel. I was walking the dogs the other day (Charlie Paper & my bf's AmStaff) and I had some lady practically scream, "Oh sh*t, pit bulls!" She immidately darted away with this terrified look on her face, and ran over to a few guys and started taking about the Pit Bulls that almost got her. I was like, you've got to be kidding me!! First of all, they're both leashed, and secondly we were on the sidewalk, and she was between two cars. Nai'a only looked at the lady, and didn't go near her, and Charlie Paper stopped to see what she yelled about. It was so ridiculis! Don't let it get to you, people aren't very smart some times.

Fear stems from ignorance, so once people see your sweet Lily playing and having fun, they will eventually warm up to her. Try and get to know the other dog owners when you don't have Lily with you then gradually introduce your girl to her new neighbours - maybe work on setting up a play date or two. I'm sure she will win them over in no time!

If she's not tugging at the very end of the leash, people might not be as fearful of her. When a dog is pulling, it makes it look as if you're not in control and people tend to steer clear. I had the same problem with Tess. People were scared of her because she was a puller.
I think you'll find that people react differently when she's got her new harness.
Good luck!

Yeah, I defintely have to get her a new harness. I know part of it was the hacking/coughing/wheezing noise she was making from her allergies and when she started making that noise, that's when the lady started running, not realizing that it was just allergies, not aggresive noises. LOL!
Ah well, tomorrow will be a new day and hopefully we find some friends for her! Tonight she will be to tired to go make friends more than likely!

OHHHH! I misunderstood that part! I can't believe that woman mistaked coughing for growling! Some people completely baffle me at how they manage to survive on such little intelligence! Haa haaa!
That's not the kind of friend Lily wants anyway! It's better to be friends with people who are at least as smart as you are, Lily!

Obedience Training
Buster is twoyears old and has been through puppy training and then through the AKC Good Citizens Test Training which he passed with flying colors. That training stresses the interaction of your dog with other people- no jumping, no lunging, sit quietly, submit to petting from strangers. It also stresses heeling when the dog is walked through crowds of people and other dogs. Buster is not perfect, but he is very controllable. We go to the pet store for food etc. and we always hear compliments as to how good mannered he is. People are impressed by a well behaved dog. By the way, he does pick his moments to be a screaming wreck, and his spirit certainly has not been broken. Invest in a good obedience class as well as the Gentle Leader and then keep training.
