Any problems with swimming in the sea?

Hi All,

Our little darling 12 w/o Bella is almost ready to be let out into the big wide world, and we are thinking of taking her to the beach/ocean regularly (obviously in a still water cove or bay) as there are a lot of parks near us on the shore.

Do boxers have any issues with salt water? Do we need to take any precautions or do anything in case she does go into the water?

Aww so cute

I take Lily to the beach all the time and she has a blast. I dont think many dogs have a problem with salt water, although i did meet a GSD with allergies to it the other day and he loved to lie in it

. The only thing id be a bit wary about it her drinking too much of it. Lily drinks it ALL the time and it doesnt come out the end very nice

Hi Gusto_md -

I would just make sure that you put some sunblock on her (particularly her white areas, as they are prone to sunburn just like humans).

Get an extra collar for the dog to wear while at the beach and a dry one to put on after--my girl had a terrible rash the first year we took her on our week-long beach trip---sand and salt water= abrasion

I always use to make sure to shampoo and condition monty and tiger after they were in the salt water. If I didn't it would dry their skin out.

We always washed and conditioned our dogs, after going to the beach. That salt water is very drying to their skin. Snoop and Dottie like ponds and swimming pools.
