Methods for nail clipping?
I am curious to hear about different methods people use when clipping your boxers nails? Earlier today I tried the "do it while their sleeping method", it worked for about the first 2 nails, then I was busted! I just thought it would be neat to hear how different people go about the task.

Clippers don't work too well for us, but the Dremel tool is GREAT...you can pick one up at your local Home Depot or Lowes store, the cordless mini-mite is about 32.00.
I wait till these guys are well fed and doing their power lounging, then the nails are not a big deal. It took Jazz a little getting used to (did only a tiny bit of filing at a time the first few attempts with her), but she is OK with it now. Hoss had has his done by the breeder since he was tiny so no problem there.

We've only done Tyler's once so far. He sat on DH's lap and my hubby held a peanut butter stuffed kong. I did a few pretend rounds, then started clipping. He was so happy to cuddle with Daddy and lick his kong that he didn't even pay attention to me. After about 8 nails he started to get a bit fidgety, so I figured that was enough for a first time. The kong provided a good distraction for a bit, though.

I've done Tango's since he was a pup with clippers. I just bought a dremel tool and i love it! It was so easy, Tango never even batted an eye. I just lay him down on his bed in the living room floor and go to it. He sleeps while i do it too

Cordless Dremel
We have used a cordless dremel since Jag was little and he just lays there and lets us work away. The first couple of times was all it took to get him comfortable with the sound and feel. Good Luck with Dutchess.

You can check out my issue with nail clipping in the behavioral forum (I think). The first time I clipped Beau's, he was fine with it. I don't know what happened, but the second time I tried, he tried to bite me. I tried while he slept, but he quickly woke up and stopped me. I even took him to the vet. They muzzled him and still couldn't do them. I've been told that sedation is the only option left because he gets VERY stressed out. For now, I just walk him on a lot of sidewalks and deal with the bloody scratches I get!

Cordless Dremel for us. The noise or vibration doesn't seem to bother the pup and it's less scary for me than the clippers!

I guess I'm lucky because I've been doing Jakes nails every two weeks since he was a baby and I have no problem doing them. One other option if you absolutely cannot do them is to go to a groomer. They charge less than a vet.

I've never heard of using a dremel, but it doesn't sound like a bad idea at all. We bought the clippers with the safety thing on it to keep you from cutting too much off. It seems to help when their squirming around, I don't have to worry about hurting them.I think its so cute your babies will let you dremel away! I have a mental picture of it after reading everybodys post. Very funny!

We also have to pin Bennington down. I hate doing it and he ias always upset with me afterwards. I think I be looking for the dremmel tool and give that a try. I hope he doesn't mind it.
