Glad to hear the only victims were the blinds and the door jam! I know that "sinking feeling" all too well. We also crate Sasha when we are gone (but leave Chopper in the room with her so she is not lonely). When she was young, her nickname was Houdini! She managed to bust out the top one day, so we wired it shut. Then she managed to figure out how to undo the slide lock and got out the door. We have to use a padlock to make sure she doesn't go out the door. We leave the key in the padlock in case of emergency. Thankfully, she hasn't figured out how to turn it!
We're slowly trying to wean her out of it a little bit at a time and will leave her out for a few hours at a time when we're gone. So far, the only victims have been some coasters and my couch pillows. She doesn't destroy them - I'll just come home to find them strewn about the house. Hopefully, now that she's two, she'll get better and better at it, so that we can get rid of the crate.
Good luck and glad to hear that nothing serious happened.
