Finally, Aubie is home

Yep he is home. He is so sweet and such a little cuddler. Things did not go too well with Toni though. I think she looks at him as a moving squeaky toy. I let her sniff him and she was very excited. Then I sat down with him in my lap and let her come part way up and sniff him. She sniffed and sniffed while he licked her face. Then she decided to crawl up on my lap too, practically squishing the puppy. I had her get down and lay down and then I put Aubie in front of her. She jumped up, straddled him and started bumping him around. She ended up turning him upside down before I could get him. I had to put her outside, which actually she seemed fine with. Later when the BF got there I put her on leash and brought her back in to see him. She just got so excited. She was not agressive, so to speak, no barking and growling. Her tail was wagging fifty miles an hour the whole time.

We put him is his crate and played with her for a while then she wanted back out.

When bedtime came we decided that we would put her in the master bath. I put her bed in there, her peanut butter and pig's ear plus a couple of her favorite toys put up the baby gate and Aubie and I went to bed. Well it was so sad because she just cried and cried. I got up several times with her and hugged and kissed her and talked to her but the minute I would lay back down she would cry again. I finally had to shut the bathroom door. After a couple of minutes she quieted and went to sleep. She ate her peanut butter but not her pig's ear.

Aubie slept ALL night. I was woke up this morning at 4:55 being licked by a little bitty tongue. I was so surprised because I went to bed with the mind set that I would be up at least 3 or 4 times in the night. I took him out and he peed a river. I was beginning to think I should have worn boots.

When we finally got up at 6:15 he went in his crate and Toni came in. She was crazy. When it was breakfast time we fed Aubie in his crate and let Toni eat in the kitchen. She was too funny. She'd take a bite and run to the crate to check on Aubie. Then run back for another bite. She got mommy's cereal milk as always and Aubie got none so I think that may have appeased her a little. Every time she would go to the crate Aubie would crawl up the side of the crate trying to get to her. So hopefully once she calms down a little they can play with supervision. She is 59 pounds, he is 10 pounds, so the size difference will be a big concern for a few months. The way he eats though, I believe he will catch up pretty quick. He consumes his food like it is his last meal and he needs to eat it quick. He is going to the vet in the morning and I am going to have him checked over thoroughly and ask some direction in allowing the two to play. If anyone out there reading this book has any suggestions, pile them on.

When we got our puppy he weighed 17 lbs and Muggsy weighed 80 and they played just wonderfully. Muggsy is sooooo gentle with him and he is fiesty as ever. I would try it with supervision at first. We had to tell Muggs once or twice he's a baby be nice and he was. Good Luck!

When we got Kuma...he was a tiny little critter, and Herkie was probably about 40-45lbs then. We were scared of him being too rough also. And yes...He just had to flip him on his back and give him the once over. But all in all...once he got over his initial excitement of the new pup being there(we also kept telling him, Kuma was his puppy...not to hurt him) everything went well. And it really only took a couple of days for him to adjust. I'm sure everything will go fine...just supervise them too make sure it doesn't get too rough, and I'm sure everything will be fine. Congrats on the new addition!

Congradulations!

Congrats and good luck with the little one. Angel has always been an only furchild, and is also a rescue. When she first met Natas she was excited and confused all at the same time. She actually started to play with him after a few days, she never used to play at all (not with toys, us, nothing, just look at us like we were crazy) Anyway, now he is almost bigger than her at 11 wks and will wrap one leg around her neck and "ride" her through out the house until she stops and plays with him. He is also very jealous even though we treat her as the Alpha. I have a feeling that he will soon want to be the alpha. Sometimes they wrestle and it sounds like they are killing each other but they are only mouthing each other. Your babies will settle into each other soon!

Thumbs up

Congrats on our new baby! We just got another baby on Monday. We also have a 2 1/2 year old boxer who was very surprised at the new addition. At first she just drooled, and I mean like food drool, all over her the entire first night. She seemed very jealous but she had the sniff over and all the other things I could think of to help them get to know each other. The next day Diamond did a little better, but played very rough with Laila, so I would spank her and tell her no when she was rough or getting aggressive and praise her like crazy if she was playing well with her, letting her lay on her, lick her, etc. Diamond began getting aggressive with me when I would discipline her for getting rough with the puppy so I just tried the sit and lay command to let her know I am still in charge. Now Diamond and Laila are doing very well together. Diamond is even helping house train Laila because every time Diamond goes outside, Laila follows to go potty. Most of all I try to keep my attention on both of them and showering both with praise. I'm making sure that Diamond knows we aren't replacing her, she just needed a little sister (she told me once in her sleep, haha!). Best of luck to you and I hope everything works out well. I think once you give it a few days for them to get used to each other everything will be just fine!
