Tree sap
Does anyone know of how to get tree sap out of dog fur? I have two pine trees in my back yard, I think for the first time this year they are leaking tons of sap. Leave it to my Cisco! He has the sap all down one leg and on his side. I have given him a bath and none of it budged. It has been there a few weeks now and is not wearing off. I even tried shaving the fur but it is too close to his skin.
I have gotten it on my hand before and it is almost impossible to wash off. I am at a loss here!

Have you tried.....
Peanut Butter?( If you can keep it away from the dear boxer's mouth, lol) I know it works to get gum out from kids hair. Just a thought!

Peanut butter was my first thought too (my daughter got gum in her hair once and that's what got it all out). I've also heard of Mayonnaise for getting things like this out. You have to leave either item on for a long time however - let the oil in it start to break down the gooey stuff. Good luck! Tree sap is the worst! We have lot's of Pine trees in our yard too, but luckily Ronin has only gotten a "drip" of sap here or there.

Goo-Gone. It's a citrus based product that removes all sorts of "gooey" substances. Works wonders on all sorts of stuff. It's found at most grocery stores.
Just be sure to spray it on a cloth, (not the dog) and rub it in good. Then use a damp cloth to remove it and then perhaps a bath. Of course don't let your dog lick it.

Now that should totally solve the problem. Put the peanut butter on the one dog and let the other dog clean it off. Two birds (or pine tar) with one stone.
Toni got pine tar on her chest. I am going to try the peanut butter on her. It should be interesting to see just how far out of her mouth that tongue will go.

Hi
I would hesitate to use nail polish remover since most contain acetone which can be absorbed through the skin and could be toxic to your dog. Bandage adhesive can be removed by rubbing alcohol. Found this site for sap removal, what they suggest isn't toxic. Let us know what works best for this.

My mother always used Pine Sol on us, and my mil used it on my husband as well. Best thing I know of.

Mayonnaise will get it off - Finn has got it on him several times and it works after about 30 seconds of massaging it in to the area
