My Delilah Has Decided She Loves Water

Delilah & I had a play date today with a new friend of mine and a new doggie friend for her. Maverick, a big black Lab, had never been to a dog park before so we went to this beautiful park nearby where everyone takes their dogs and lets them run off leash. It is a gorgeous space with a small pond in the middle. Maverick is kinda a slug and had never seen water as well. Strange for a Lab not to take to the water but he didn't. Delilah, on the other hand, loooooves the water. I've had her to this park several times since I learned I could trust her off leash. At first she didn't know what to do and wanted to chase the other dogs into the water but was not getting in. I finally gave her a little "help" and not only didn't she panic but she got this goofy Boxer grin on her face as soon as she realized her feet could touch bottom. Today, I couldn't keep her out!!! We also ran into a dog-walker aquaintance from the other dog park we frequent who had his dog and my fave from the park, Tiny, a gorgeous gray and black Great Dane girl. It was hysterical to watch Tiny, also not much of a water dog, finally step in and walk around in the water with Delilah. At one point Delilah was out in the deeper part of the pond, doing her best clumsy doggie paddle (Boxers do not seem to be the most graceful of swimmers!!!) and Tiny sauntered up and cuffed her playfully in the head, ducking her under the water. She actually came up for more boxing and was dunked again and again!!! It was a riot!!!

Way to go Delilah! What a cute story. Thanks for sharing.

Try & try as I might Mason just won't swim. He gets just about to the point where his back legs are coming off the ground and he turns back toward shore. Sigh...maybe one day.

My babies don't submerge themselves and swim, but they splash and play a lot! I love the way they look holding their heads above water and paddling! Give Delilah big kisses from me!
