Tree sap in fur
I tried doing a search but since sap isn't more than 4 letters, the search function doesn't work. On to the problem...
Vegas stayed at my parents on the weekend and he must have been playing in the pine trees and got sap all over him. This stuff is matted into his fur and it doesn't want to come out. We have tried to comb it out but it pulls like crazy and is pulling his fur out. Anyone have any tips? Any secret home remedies??
Thanks in advance

I don't know if it would work, but baby oil might be worth a try. Try some with a cotton ball and work it gently in a small area.
Simple green might also work. I've seen salesmen drink the stuff to prove it isn't toxic. I thought they were nuts.

Bacon fat!
My friend and I used to explore and collect kindling in the forest around her cottage and come back covered in sap. For hands, just rubbing a piece of bacon gets it off, and in hair, if you heat some slices of bacon slightly, the grease starts to run. Use the runny fat (ew) on Vegas maybe with a toothbrush or something and it should come out You might need someone to hold him down in the process hehe. Then give him a bath to get it all off.
The ideal stuff to use is WD40 but bacon is its distant cousin so it works too

After the bacon fat, a bath won't even be necessary, I'm sure he will wash himself carefully!!!

I am sure the only thing we will have to hold is his head! He will most likely try to eat it before we get it on him!!
Thanks for the tips. I will give them a try!

I found this one!
2. Tree Sap and Tar- Again clip the tar out of the fur. If there is excessive spread, try working some petroleum jelly into the tar. Wipe with rag and repeat until all tar has been removed. Make sure your dog doesn't eat the tar.
One of the best ways, that I have found, to take gum out of ANYTHING, including fur, is Shaklee's 'Basic H'. It's safe to use on & around Pets & People. All you do is, put drops of 'Basic H' on and around the gum. Rub it in as best you can. Wait 10 to 15 min. It softens the gum and takes away the sticky. Then you can easily pull the gum out without cutting the fur or hurting the animal. Then just rinse the spot to remove any excess 'Basic H'. Try it. It really does work.
Another great way to remove any sticky substance from your dog's fur is with "Goop," a well know hand cleaner used by mechanics. Keep this tip to yourself or you'll never have any Goop around when you need it.
Got these off the net hope something works for you.

There was a post about this not too long ago. Some suggestions includes rubbing alcohol followed by conditioner, and also mayonaise. Both remedies worked very well. Hope you can get the sap out. I went through it with Lady not too long ago as well. She lived to tell about it!

This happened to Finnegan just a couple of weeks ago - Mayonaise will get it out, just massage it into the area and in a few minutes it will be gone

I don't have any experience with tree sap, but I used Avon Skin so Soft to get bubble gum out of Lacy's fur.
