Cool beach day

Hi, just had to share that the weather in Florida was sunny and warm, perfect for a morning at the beach.
Jillian and I had a girl's morning out at the beach and it was lovely. Jilly frolicked in the surf, layed in the dirt, and played with the other humans and dogs. We saw 3 other boxers!
Jilly received many compliments from dogs owners and passerbyers that she is so lovely and well-behaved. She puts on a very good miss manners act in public!

Anyone else have a boxer that loves the beach? Jilly goes for the surf and the people mostly.

Thumbs up

We have an off leash dog beach nearby (in So Cal). Boo LOVES it. It's the only place she can dig freely--gets it out of her system. Also there are probably 100 dogs at any given time and at least a dozen boxers. For some reason, the dogs seem to get along better at the beach than at the dog park. No fights as yet and we've been a few times. She's still kind of scared of the surf, it's pretty heavy here and cold.

She thinks it's doggy Disneyland.

That's why I go to the beach too, never have seen a dog fight! Plus Jilly is now a swimmer. At the other dog parks I have seen fights, I have even seen a pit bull and his owner taken away by the police.
At the beach I think the dogs have more to do!

Does Jilly usually stay close to you at the beach? We've taken Nikki only one time to the beach, but we kept her on a Flexi lead because she's very explorative! I always feel uneasy that she might go too far.

Sounds like you & Jilly had a blast at the beach! We love the Florida weather!

AntJan-
Yes, Jilly stays close and keeps one eye on me at all times. She is miss manners in public. Our first boxer bash, she sat on my foot most of the time. I had to run around with the dogs so she would play. She had a rough start and likes the security of mommy. All I need to do is call her name and she is back sitting at my feet. Mommy can even take a chair when Jilly goes. Tulley is a whole other ballgame. Mommy needs her shorts and jogging shoes when he goes. He turns me off and turns on the fun. Once I chased him down to the "people beach" where he caught sight of someone he wanted to meet. I also worry about him running up into the hilly area where the sandspurs are or worse, past that is a ravine where alligators are spotted. Needless to say, Jilly goes more. We are working on Tulley's recall and he is still young so the beach is still a possibility for him. I have to leash him throughout the visit to moderate him.
I don't take both anymore because poor Jilly spends the day in a sit stay while I chase after him or following me around chasing him.

We don't have a ocean in Okla., but we have lots of lakes and I have taken my girls to the lake many times. We usually go as a group, with anywhere from 4 to 15 dogs when we go. Its a neighborhood dog lover thing !

The girls absolutely love running in the sand, Maggie loves to swim and fetch sticks out of the water and wrestle and chase each other and the other dogs and be rough and tumble boxers! They are truly in Dog Heaven at the lake.

My girls are excellent about recall at the lake. I give them lots of freedom (all dogs are off leash) and they run and go but never seem to get far enough away from me that they can't see me. Once they get too far for their own comfort, here they come running back to Daddy, and they will come to me when called 99% of the time.

The only problem I have with recall is with Susie. One of the men who usually is with us and his wife bring their dog as well. The husband usually ends up walking by himself down the shoreline and he wanders around, enjoying his solitude and the peaceful lake environment. However, Susie absolutely LOVES this man and will follow him wherever he goes. If he wanders down the shore, there's Susie, following him right behind! Even if I call her, she won't leave him by himself. She sticks with him until he comes back to the group. It is the oddest thing, but I do think Susie has a bit of a crush on him !

Can't wait for our first trip to the lake this season. I know the girls will be thrilled to get back and have more fun.
