Talking Riley is a squirrel stalker!!

Today I let Riley outside while I was finished the dishes. Our sink is right next to the window so I can peek out to check on him when I want to. Well, I looked just in time to see him walking extremely slow and very low to the ground. He almost looked like a cat stalking a mouse. I was very curious to see why he was doing this so I stepped outside to watch. About 10' - 15' in front of him was a squirrel hopping around looking for peanuts. Finally Riley just couldn't hold back any longer and he lunged at the squirrel. The squirrel luckily was fast enough and smart enough to just run through the fence before Riley got to him. It was so funny to watch. I just hope Riley sticks to stalking them and not actually catching them!!

Don't be so sure. I would guess that it is just a matter of time until he fine tunes his squirrel catching abilities. Does he wear any tags on his collar that make noises for the squirrels to hear?

I have experienced a similar situation recently with my cat. Usually she wears a bell on her collar so she has never been able to catch any critters. Well that all changed when she lost her collar recently. Without the bell she was able to be "stealthly" enough to catch and kill a poor little sparrow the other day. Then rather than eating it, she leaves her prize right outside my bedroom door

Clara is also a squirrel hunter. It's really funny to watch because once I open the door, she lunges to the back of the yard where all the trees are, in hopes of finding one around. And when she sees one on a tree, she jumps around the tree. Thank goodness for the tags on her collar....the squirrel can get away

No squirrels here, but Diva does the same with cats. She has come close to getting one and I haven't seen that cat come near my backyard again! Monty on the other hand just look bewildered like "what, what is it, what's going on"!

Ginger loves to chase squirrels too. I keep telling her she will never catch them. I think it is their natural instinct to chase any animal they see. On the topic of squirrels, today I happen to look out my kitchen window and what is looking in at me sitting on the outside window sill? A squirrel! Just looking at me, not scared or anything. I tell Ginger there is a squirrel and told her to lean up on the counter. She saw it and could not believe it either. Then she headed to our back door wanting to go out.

Our female, Rudy, chases about a whole bunch of stuff, squirrels included. We don't have any noise makers on her colar because she has a snowball chance in you know what of catching one! We actually drop her leash once she sees one, otherwise she'll pull your arm right out of the socket. Rocky likes to chase also but he can't match her speed.

I doubt Rowdy will ever catch one as long as Mattie is around. She starts barking the second she sees one. Rowdy did catch a bird once. Boy was that a mess.

Poor Squirrels

Gus LOVES to chase squirrels. As soon as he sees them he takes off like a bat of of H**L. Unfortunately, since our wonderful babies are a little slow, when they run up the tree he gets confused. He just stops and turns in circles then runs up to me or my husband and keeps looking back. It is as if he is asking us, "where did it go?"

Boxers have the best personalities.

Murray loves to chase squirrels, birds, rabbits or whatever else wanders in our yard. I love to watch him when he spots one -- he stands there staring with one paw lifted and then makes his move.
