Chasing lights

Owen is our 2.5 year old male that will not stop chasing lights, reflections, shadows, or anything that is bright and moves,...

It is really cute to watch, but sometimes it can be dangerous.

We have halogen pot lights in our kitchen so when we are cooking and we move a plate, knife, bowl,.. it casts a reflection on the ceiling, and Owen goes nuts. He starts jumping and chasing the reflection around the kitchen. Being that Owen is over 70lbs he can easliy knock me over. This is dangerous especially when I am not paying attention and he comes charging into the kitchen after a reflection and I have a sharp knife... Luckily we have not had any accidents.

Our house is open concept so we are unable to baracade him out of the kitchen, the only place that we could put him is the basement, but I don't want to do that.

We are working in long down stays with him, and he is getting better. On occasion the lights are too much and he will break his stay...

Do any of your guys do this? Our female Tegan looks at Owen as if he has lost his mind! Sometimes I think the same thing

Sam is afraid of reflections in the windows. At nighttime it's all I can do to watch t.v. while Sam is barking and howling at the reflection of it in the window!! Daphne doesn't act afraid of anything like this, but she's pretty shy around strangers and things like that. Neither of them do the light thing that you mentioned, but Sam's obsession with the reflections drives me nuts, so I can empathize with you!! Those silly dogs....

I am glad to hear that I am not the only one.

I know people say that they are sensitive dogs, but sometimes they suprise me on how "tunned-in" they really are!

I am sure that Owen would react to the reflection of the TV in the window if he saw it. I will keep that in mind the next time I rearrange the furniture in my living room!

Bosco just discovered the flash light last night. I had it out for something and when he saw the light he went crazy trying to catch it. It was so funny! He was trying to bite it. Crazy dogs.

Layla loves to chase lights and reflections and shadows too When my husband does any work on the cars and uses a torch we have to keep her in the house or she would try to jump in the motor

She confuses the other dogs when she chases butterfly shadows - the other three usually end up running around the yard trying to find just what she is on about

Megan chases light too. A funny but dangerous time is when we are in the car. My husband watch reflects on the ceiling. She stares at that reflection looking like she is ready to pounce on it. So my husband will take the watch off but Megan still stares at the ceiling like "where did it go?"

Our 3 year old boy Tyler loves chasing shadows. It's funny to watch him pouncing on the ground as I peg the washing! Or if you have a flashlight he'll chase that up the walls as well. We haven't observed any reflection chasing yet - but it's not out of the question! He's not quite sure about the mirror thing either - he tries to look behind it!

Jingo chases lights, reflections, and the laser pointer. One day she was sitting in the kitchen staring at the wall. I couldn't figure out what the heck she was watching There weren't any reflections or lights... finally figured out she was watching the second hand on the clock!

Someone mention the reflection of the watch. Just yesterday Lady chased the reflection of my watch for a good hour. She has this bug obsession, so I'm assuming that's what she thinks it is. She tries to eat the lighe reflection. She's so crazy!

BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT LETTING YOUR DOG CHASE FLASHLIGHTS!!!

We use to think it was hilarious until one of ours saw a car coming down the road at night and was hit. He almost died and we were very lucky.
