Chasing 4 dogs all leashed together!
So last week I was feeling pretty good. No foot pain. No back pain. Generally, feeling healthy. I decided since the weather was nice, to take all 4 dogs for a walk in the school soccer field across the street.
I quickly whipped up 2 more 30 ft leads, as I only ever had 2 dogs at a time. I have this humungous carabiner clip that I loop all the handles in. I then wrapped up the leads and leashed each dog. The clip and all the extra lead is in my left hand and the other hand has all 4 leads wrapped to a 3 ft length. Out the door we go. They have been pent up for weeks since I was not in the painless state and had a big show to prepare lots of product for. Smiley of course, was spinning on his line. He was raring to go!
We waited for traffic to dissappear thinking a trip and fall would be horrific in busy traffic. Smiley was just beginning to wind up. Lily is now prancing on her line. We cross the street. On the other side, I start to unwind the leads as Smiley is straining to take off. Fozzy right behind him.
I drop the rest of the leads AND DROPPED THE CLIP TOO! Like a shot, off they went! 4 dogs running straight across the field, linked together. Lily lagging a bit since she still is awaiting her knee replacement. I cussed to myself for my stupidity. I begin to delicately jog after. Not too stressed as I knew being tethered together, they wouldn't get too far to quick. Boy was I wrong!
As they are 1/3 of soccer field ahead of me, I yell "STOP"! Lily and Buster are trained to stop, but only Lily has ears in public. Buster can't hear with his nose. Lily stops, she sits, and then gets drug on her side as the other 3 continue on their rampage! I could see her face, looking at me as if to say "I stopped mom, but now what?" She gains her footing and now being forced to run along all out canters.
I look up to see what is ahead of them. OH GOD! Theirs a softball game going on in the field up ahead! Crap!!! From my yelling, the game has stopped and everyone's eyes are on this fiasco! I yell, "THEIR FRIENDLY". I figured if one could be caught, they'd all be caught. By this time, I am now limping on my bad knee with a torn ACL. Damn dogs!
The dogs get to the other side of the field and now heading for the parking lot. I am almost in tears now, but extremely p.o'd. Smiley, who never seems to do the right thing, amazes me. He goes left around a car and the rest go right. Now they are stuck. The leads got stuck under the tires, so they now are stationary. I slow to a limping walk about 50 ft away. I reach the car.
Things would have been perfect, EXCEPT, Smiley, the brain trust he is, decides to run completely around the car to come back to me. So his lead is now wrapped completely around the car. As I walk him back around to untangle, Lily decides to go around the other side to meet me. URGH!!! Now two leads wrapped around opposite directions! Idiots! Buster is just waiting there, knowing I'm frustrated. I get Smiley unwrapped. Lily, who is very good at the "go'round" command, heads off and untangles herself. Now I have all the leads in my hand and ready to wind them up again. I pull each lead til I have a dog. EXCEPT one lead end is missing a clip!!! I spin around and count the dogs, Buster, Smiley, Lily. Where's Fozzy???!!!!!
Fozzy is sitting all pretty about 10 ft away watching us. Whew. At least he didn't take off into the softball game. He can be tricky to catch. I call him "Fozz Fozz, come boy". He happily trots over. I tie the torn lead onto his collar - triple knotted. Cheap lead! Not one of mine. LOL
I finally gather all the leads, and head back across the soccer field. I look back and receive an applause for my entertainment. I was so embarrassed. I know they were thinking "what is that woman doing trying to walk 4 big dogs by herself?"
As soon as we reach the field, I take the clip and wrap it around my waist looping it to the leads. I drop the rest of the leads. And then guess what happens? Damn dogs stay in a perfect heal!!!!!! From that moment on, they all walked beautifully on the lead.
Moral of this story: No matter how good I feel, I still can't catch 4 dogs running rampant. So I will stick with walking two at a time for now on.

Yep I can picture it all in my minds eye, VERY entertaining . If I was the one watching on I would be having a little laugh to myself on and off for the rest of the day.
Poor you and your poor knee.

I can certainly laugh my butt off now. I can imagine how ridiculous I must have looked. Lesson learned. I am not superwoman any more. And yes, I was back in the day! HAHAHA
I sure hope in a few years my hoverround will go fast!
For now, only four dogs on my trike. Two if I'm walking.

I'd be scared to clip them to my waist after all that ... all 4 of them! My grandma tried that once with Cora when she was younger... mowed the field with her chin lol crop circles. Thats one crazy story. Too funny.

I hope your knee is feeling better. And you are much braver than I to even attempt to walk 4 at once! I have to walk my 2 seperately. But thank you for the laugh!

Boy, you are brave! Walking Cornelius alone can be quite the challenge for me!! Sorry, I did have to laugh at your visual but you did get applause for all of your troubles so it couldn't have been that bad. Hope your knee is OK.

I'm glad you all enjoyed the visuals. I still laugh about it. My knee is as good as it can get. I, along with Lily, is awaiting knee replacement.
Truth be told, I just contacted a dog walker. LOL I definitely need some help getting them out more often. I will take the two slow ones and she can take the two zoomy ones. Will be nice to have company too.
My BF comes over every now and again and usually helps me take them for a walk. Last time she just stopped in on her way through town. Lily sat at the door and barked and barked at her. Guess Lily has a BF walking buddy now too. Lily is pretty persistant and doesn't take "not today" as a good enough answer. "She's here, then why not a walk?" Buster gets in BFs face and stares at her until she finally gives in. Then we leash them up and take a short walk around the outside of the fence and back in the front door. LOL Seems to satisfy their thirst.

I had thought the same thing. Then I thought since there was an audience, and everyone has a camera on their phone it could end up on YouTube and you not even know. I searched. I couldn't find it.
