Canadian goose poop in NJ, EVERYWHERE!

I hate it, I live in New Jersey and it's almost impossible to take my dog anywhere that is nice to run off leash without being littered with goose poop. I walk in it, Capone eats it. No matter how distracted I get him, the poop wins! I live where I can be in city area parks or the sticks in a relatively short car ride, and it doesn't matter, they have taken over everywhere that was once nice. The vet says he's never seen a case of anything negative happening from ingestion, but that's not my worry. I just want him to run, play, fetch, swim in the water off leash everyday. But the poop always takes over, I can't stop him. A number of other people have the same problem. When I hike trails where the geese haven't taken over, they are so tick filled, it's impossible to enjoy a hike without doing a tick check every five minutes on myself and my dog. I kid you not, the last time I did some mountain hiking, there were literally anywhere from 10 to 15 ticks making their way up my dogs feet, after checking every 5 to 10 minutes. He is on frontline, and I have tried others, the ticks are relentless this year especially. He has already had a sister disease to lyme disease (that vaccines can't prevent) and luckily won the battle against it, so I'm always nervous about the ticks. I really don't have any questions, just wanted to rant on how frustrated I am at not being able to let him be a dog and run and jump and enjoy a swim because of these things. Anyone else having these problems?

Lmao. Omg reading that really made my day this morning. Those damn Canadian goose poops!! We have a similar problem, except that there are loads of places to take the dog where there isn't any goose poop. They seem to stick near water and close to downtown where we live. I just avoid those places because the fields tend to be littered with dropings everywhere... can't really avoid it its not one or two piles. But its sort of like rabbit poop in my backyard. I don't care how well you fortify the yard those darn rabbits always get in and theres poop all over. Cora isn't that bothered by them. I just don't want to run around and play ball in a field filled with poop. Stuff dries and breaks down pretty quickly though. Blame Canada. We're famous! :P Aren't the geese all gone north or do they stay there all year round?

Wow, what a crappy place to live! Sorry, just had to - I'm from PA! LOL We have them around here too, but not so prevalent. Sorry you have to deal with it. Is it all summer long or just til they migrate?

If this makes you feel any better, all the Amish around here are fertizing their fields with the most awful, nastiest liguid stuff. It's so offensive I can't be outside too long or I wanna vomit! The dogs aren't affected though. So it's certainly not as bad as your predicament.

So that is where the geese went! I live in KS and was noticing the other day we hardly have any geese! We get more in the winter but some stay all year. There is a field with a pond about a mile from my house It is usually full at this time of year, but there are just a few nesting pairs there now, and it has been that way for the last month. I realize it has been a mild winter, and they probably have moved on. The thing that bothers me is there are so few that stayed. I think we are going to be in for a long hot, dry summer.

I do get what you are saying about the poop. When I lived in VA there was a nice little pond near our house. I had to quit walking the dogs on the path past it because the poop was everywhere. The geese finally moved on and then beavers moved in. I felt bad for the people who lived there. First they couldn't let their kids out to play in the yard because of the poop, and then beavers were coming in and taking their trees! In VA beavers are protected animals, so they were limited as to what they could do.

For future reference.

This is one my pet peeves and I am working to rid the world of this scourge. They are called Canada geese not Canadian geese. Not to mention you can correct someone and sound like an educated snob jut like me.
