Poor Farah :(
I let her out this morning to do her business and then I got a call from a friend. In the middle of conversation, I hear these loud cries and yelps coming from the backyard. I rushed out there and my heart absolutely stopped. Farah's collar was twisted three times around Princess (my parent's outside dog) lower jaw. They were stuck together and twisting each way to get free. There was blood *everywhere* D: Somehow I got them unstuck. Both had bloody mouths but Farah got the brunt of it. A bunch of cuts on her nose and her face (both eyes bloodshot too). For a half hour after she was sneezing blood. Thankfully none of them seem deep so she should be ok but oh my god, that was scary. I'll never forget to take her collar off before letting her out again.

Oh my gosh, how scary! These types of accidents are a big reason that my two don't wear collars when they're home alone, or for play-dates. They only wear collars if we're going for a walk.
So glad they're both OK.

How scary! I'm glad neither was seriously hurt. I read years ago that thousands of dogs each year are strangled by their own collars, often when home alone. After I read that my dogs only wear their collars when we leave home. (My yard is fenced in.) They also make a breakaway collar that releases if a dog becomes entangled. Glad that both are okay. When Monty was alive, neither he nor Diva would wear collars at home for fear of them getting caught, plus Monty would always grab hold of Diva's collar and try and drag her Diva still only wears her collar when going on a walk or off the property.

Even though she probably didn't need to go, I took her to the vet today. Concerned doggy mom was concerned. Good news is she didn't have any outer scratches on her eye. He gave her a shot and eye drops to help her get feeling better.

I'm definitely adopting a no collar at home policy from now on. I don't want to go through that again or worse, have her be strangled to death. Too scary to think about

Glad you're pup is OK. Cornelius is another one that is "naked" in the house (even when I am home). I only put on his collar when he goes to daycare and a harness when we go for a walk.

I have never left a collar on while inside or in the yard. Only on walks BUT when Raine wears her harness (about 1/4 of the time), I've started putting her collar on as well. Those times we are away from home and God forbid there was an issue with the harness and she got away. At least she would have her collar with my contact info.
For sure NO COLLARS on while dogs are in crates.

Such a scary event!!! I would have totally freaked out!
Just a thought, if your dog is out without a collar (and tags), I'd suggest getting them chipped just in case. Better safe than sorry.

Her collar has a tag with contact info but yeah, it'd probably be good to get her chipped in case she tries to run away from home. How much does it cost to get a dog chipped? I've never had it done before.

I just had my two chipped. (I saw too many people looking for pets, and found pets looking for owners after tornadoes this year.) It cost me $17 per dog at my vets office. I filled out the paperwork at the vets and they got them registered. I didn't even need to make an appt.!

My vet offered to chip my boxer when he got neutered for about $100.. I opted for the ear tattoo (for free) instead which still traces him back to the vet who has all of my information. For $17, I definitely would have done it!
He also wears his collar though with his name, our contact information and a tag with an alert on it that he is deaf in case he ever gets out.
Poor Farah though! That would be scary!
