Big boxer+carseat+corolla= ??

Is this do-able? Johann is a slightly overgrown boxer boy (26-27 inches tall, weighs about 88 lbs). He is comfortable in the backseat of my 4 door toyota corolla right now. However, in January Johann will have to either share the backseat or learn to ride in the front seat. He always wears a seatbelt harness, so he'll be safely restrained wherever he is.

Will he learn to adjust to squeezing into the backseat with a baby? A new car is not do-able, and DH is not keen on giving up his SUV in the middle of a Maine winter so that the dog can go for his beach romps (DH has a 40 min commute).

Am I crazy for even thinking this can work out?

He'll adjust and it will be fine. Congrats on the pending arrival!! Plus he'll probably want to be back there to keep an eye on the baby.

First, congratulations!!

Perhaps Joann can start practicing now with the car seat in the back? That way there will be a little less chaos later,

Congratualtions! I have a mustang convertable and put Thor, 80lbs (used to be 100lbs) and Arabella, 70lbs in the back. They both have room to move an resituate themselves if need be. (i.e. if something more interesting out the other side.) Arabella even often lays down. I would avoid the front seat unless you can turn off the air bag. They can be just as dangerous to your dog as in child.

He will adjust! It's not like you'll be doing all-day car trips, right? I've had two grown great danes in the backseat of my corolla before! It took them a bit of sorting amongst themselves, but they got it figured out and were comfortable for the 30-minute ride home.

That's ok Larry....he is a pretty girly boy.

Putting the empty carseat back there before baby gets here is a good idea. I'm picturing us all getting to our destination and having to change baby's outfit due to excessive boxer drool. Seems like it will make a perfect chin rest for my monster.

I have no experience with this but Johann is a good boy and I'm sure he will get used to it.

First of all congrats!!!! I think Johann will do just fine in the back with a car seat. I have a Pontiac Sunfire, it's only a 2 door and both my guys fit in the back just fine!

Ummmm

I totally missed this but then was reading in your newest post about how great Johann was - and realized someone said soon Johann would have a younger brother/sister to walk with - HELLO! ?!? I missed this!

Congrats!! I'm sooo happy for you guys! Please share your experience with bringing baby into the picture - DH and I are talking about trying next year and I'd love to have positive reinforcement that we aren't crazy for bringing a baby into the house when Rocky is only 2.

Congrats again! Oh and about your OP - Rocky had to sit in the back seat of my FORD escape with my brother and sis-in law on both sides of him. He managed to squeeze his big butt into a sitting position and stayed there the entire 45 minute drive. THey do adjust - and so will Johann!
