The Sleeping-In Dilemma
I had to foster sit a neo-mastiff for 10 days and what a housefull that was! He was an awesome dog and my pack was very welcoming to him. But when he left on Saturday, I was sooooo looking forward to sleeping in!
Well, I headed to bed early, like 7pm. I was exhausted! I left the dog door open so they could at least go potty in the morning. About 2am I awoke to this screaming in front of my face! It was wretching! Took me a minute to focus on Lily's head inches from my face. Another second to realize it wasn't her screaming ~ It was a FREAKIN' BAT flapping out of her mouth!!!
Dangit' Lily!!!! Why do you have to continually show me all your "gifties"? Why can't you just keep it outside and play with it there?
There went my sleeping in - couldn't fall back to sleep without hearing that screaming! Within 30 mins - all the dogs were sound asleep and I was watching home shopping through my wide-set eyes! Damn dogs!

Oh my goodness! It's a good thing you went to bed as early as you did! That would have been enough to keep me wide awake too! I'm terrified of bats.

I am so sorry, but I had to laugh...I gasped first if that makes you feel better. Thank God any "presents" my dogs have brought into the house have been dead and not screaming. I'd like to know how she caught it. Mine have caught birds, but I think they were on the ground when they did.

Is there any chance the bat bit you? My mom and my sister both had to go thru rabies shots because they had a bat in their house, they didn't know how long it has been in the house, and were told that you might not even feel a bat bite.

This is the second bat that Lily has caught. She jumps straight in the air and mouth snatches them mid-air (that's with two torn ACL's too!) Then runs around with the wings flapping out both side of her mouth all the while screaming. She is such a nut sometimes.
No, the bat didn't bite me......checked Lily, but who knows.....glad her rabies is up to date.
Buster brings in half-dead & half-skinned baby bunnies - Lily brings in screaming bats - Smiley brings in chunks of cement from who knows where - Fozzy is my good boy - he only takes things OUT! (Most times it being my laundry from the pile) LOL

It sure was a fun filled foster visit! The only problem with BooBoo, the mastiff, is that he is toy and food aggressive. So, all the toys, bones and antlers were put away and everyone fed in seperate rooms.
Lily, who is normally dog aggressive (fear based), took to this big guy like he was her posse. She stuck by him cause none of the other boys would test him. LOL She could lay by him and never be harrassed! She would also prance around him with her head high and her butt in his face! Well, as close to it she could get it since he is twice her size!
Buster, the fuddy-dud, pretty much left him alone. Smiley, was always nervous and doing his annoying mouth-licking which ticked BooBoo off, but he was still tolerant.
Fozzy however, finally grew a pair and instigated play with him on the 8th day. LOL Yeah, try keeping out of the way of a 150lb. playful dog! Fozzy was no help - he plays every chance that pup gets - so having another biggun' to play with was pure heaven!
I tell ya, it was a calm, cool and collected house with 5 dogs! Surprisingly I actually got some stock sewn up with them laying at my feet! I should have kept him around if only to keep the pack at peace!

That is TOO FUNNY!!! I can't believe she catches BATS! I thought those critters were fast. My cat catches all kinds of small animals but I can't imagine my boxers doing it. Hilarious!

Just remind Lily to be nice to the bats or she will be dealing with mosquitoes!
I've seen my fair share of bunnies, mice and birds. Never thought of a dog snatching a bat though...

I moved into this house 12 yrs ago and had a few bats. I let them stay and now I have hundreds! I actually enjoy watching them fly out of the eaves at dawn.....quite a sight! AND YES - NO MOSQUITOS!!!

Too funny
That is too funny, I am so glad that Bugsy doesn't catch anything besides the ball and toys!! We got really lucky with our boxer, he's not destructive at all, the most he has really done is pulled books off the book shelf and didn't even chew on them!!!
