Considering another

The ole' lady and I are considering adopting a boxer so Bailey can have a play pal. We are currently very happy with Bailey and her behavior. We got Bailey when she was 8 weeks old and have spent a lot of time and energy training her. I'm a little fearful we'll lose progress or start having problems with them out back instead of playing.

Has anyone else adopted a boxer after successfully raising one? Any opinions or experiences are greatly appreciated.

Napoleon was 6 months old when he came to our house and Sandy was 3.
She was already a very good girl and she did not regress at all, if anything, she thought she had to do better. We immediately started training Napoleon and since he was abused, we had to find ways to boost his self esteem...he had none...

She was right there every step trying to help, she is very much the big sister...

Hopefully you will have the same scenerio.

Good Luck!

Star was three yrs old when we brought Thor home, he was 8 wks. She was very maternal and was delighted to have a puppy. We found it easier to train Thor because he had an good example on what to do by following Star's lead. We can now not even imagine having just one boxer! Star has since passed but we've now got Arabella. And again the older dog helps train the new!

Well... we've got a 3 month old puppy and were thinking about adding an older boxer from a rescue shelter. We just get the impression that our puppy doesn't want to be an only dog!

We started thinking about getting another when Kilby was about 12 months. Others here recommended we wait until she was about 2 and our breeder agreed. In the end, Kilby was 2.5 when we got Kona and while I wouldn't say Kilby has regressed she has gotten a little cheekier..... she and Kona run riot together

In the beginning Kilby wasn't too sure about Kona but Kona on the other hand loved Kilby right from the outset... It was a bit sad really, Kona would try play with Kilby but she wasn't into it, she'd try to snuggle up with Kilby but Kilby would just move. But as Kona got bigger Kilby started to assert herself a little more and is now very maternal with Kona (she always makes sure Kona is settled before she goes to bed, they snuggle, she makes sure Kona has water and food and even cleans her face before she goes to sleep!). They LOVE to play together (in fact, they have just come in from a 3hr play session in the backyard).

I'm glad we waited until Kilby was a bit older as we were completely confident in her behaviour and training and new that she would help Kona learn (which she definetly has). The first 4-6mths were really hard for us (Kona was an absolute menace of a puppy) but now they are definitely a pair and hate being apart. We say we should have called Kona 'shadow'

Considering another

We've been thinking of adding another dog to our clan. My husband, who is in a wheelchair, would love to have a small dog to have in his lap all the time. I on the other hand, would love another boxer to play with Tugger.

After reading through the posts on a few forums, I'm thinking that we should wait. Tugger is still very much a puppy at about 15 months old, and she seems to have started some jealousy issues. Just recently, we visited a friend who has a boxer for the first time. The two dogs had a wonderful time playing together, but when I started paying attention to the other dog by petting him, Tugger would step between us. She seemed to tell the other dog to stay away from my mom!

We rescued Tugger from the county animal control last January and she has walked (bounced, really) in and stolen our hearts. I love my boxer and I wouldn't want to do anything to jeopardize our relationship. But, can you teach a dog not to be jealous?

My two are extremely jealous of the other one getting attention. We just make sure that they get plenty of alone loves and also make them be nice to each other while they are getting shared loves. They have also learned that if they get nasty about it....nobody gets loves. So you can't really train them to not be jealous, but you can train them to behave and not act up about it.

When we got Kilbane, pup of 8 weeks, there was already my step-son's Am-staff pup, 6 mon, in the house. I worked on training Kilbane from a local trainer and at home. Kilbane was a handfull to train but it did work out in the end. When Kilbane was about 1, my step-son moved out with his pup. Kilbane was obviously depressed, so I started to adoption process in Aug. At the end of Oct, I got a call on a potentional pup. The following day Jazzy was in our home, and meeting Kilbane for the first time. They were/are a perfect match. Within 3 days the routine was known and there hasn't been a problem at all in the past 3 years.(Wow time does fly).
There wasn't any set backs, only down side would be the wanting attention at the same time. No fighting just a bunch of pushing and nudging, but there is a routine in the house for that also.
BTW the Am-staff was/is back in the home along with Step-son about 3 months after Jazzy came home.
I'm glad we got Jazzy when we did.
Now I'm waiting for the Step-son to move out for the final time. That's when I'll look for a White Boxer to complete the Trifecta.

had our leila girl for about two years and then adopted tuff guy and they are insepreable. Best of friends. Obviously that is not the case with all pairs, but we always joke about how we knew they would get along but never dreamed they would get along this well.

another addition

Hopefully, Tugger will enjoy another's company at home. We've found a boxer that needed rescued at the county animal control, and he'll be available for adoption Monday morning.

He's a nice looking dog, maybe about a year old and fawn colored with some chocolatey striping on his back. I think Reeses will be his name (like the Reeses Peanut Butter Cup!)

Not having a lot experience with Boxers, would he be considered fawn, or because of the stripes, be a brindle?

Can't wait 'till Monday!!!
