Question nail clipping

I'm thinking about getting a drummel tool. Any thoughts on a drummel v.s. a regular nail clipper? I just wondering if they will be afraid of it. I like the idea of getting them nice and short, and not sharp.

I love my Dremmel. At first Brighid was a little afraid of the noise so I left it unplugged sitting on the floor for her to investigate. Then when she seemed satisfied I turned it on the lowest speed and held it while she investigated some more. The next day I started using it and we haven't gone back to clippers yet.

I had a Shar-Pei who was terrified of having his nails cut. It took 3 adults to hold him while a 4th cut his nails. When I started using the Dremmel it only took 1 person to do his nails. He was never afraid of it.

I'm going to invest in a Dremel tool in the next month or so for Boomer. I must admit he was wonderful when the vet cut his nails two weeks ago.

Cheers,

I have just purchased a dremmel, and I love it. Leena is still a little affraid of it, but I got to do half of her nails. Mason will take some work, because he is very affraid of new things. He still has some trust issues, but he is a totally different boxer than he was.

Here is a very good site on using a Dremel to trim your dog's nails. I find that my dogs accept the Dremel far more than clipping - clippers squeeze the nail before they cut, which causes pressure or pinching on the quick, which is at best uncomfortable and at worst painful. Dremelling, done properly, is just a little annoying

Someone on this board suggested the dremmel tool to me and it works wonderfully. Nino does hate to have his nails clipped but he doesn't seem to mind the dremmel as much as the clippers. Good Luck!
