Christmas Tree BLUES!!!
We put up our Christmas tree last Sunday, and all was well until the ornaments went on. My little girl was so excited about the "balls" all over the tree that she couldn't contain herself. At first she was boxing them and soon it turned into a game when they started swinging. She would get crouched down on her front paws and start hitting them with her nose. She then learned that they would come off if she tried hard enough. We tried everything to keep her away from the tree. Then she started breaking the ornaments, uh-oh!!! I don't know about any of you, but we can not afford any more emergency vet trips. She got as far as three broken "balls" and enough was enough. I have had to de-decorate my tree!!! It now just has some lights, but I guess that will have to do.
Anybody else have any fun redecorating stories to share?

No stories yet - we have not put up the tree. But it sounds like she had a lot of fun (until mummy stopped the fun)!

Buster's first Christmas was last year, he ended up tearing up a couple ornaments my son had made. We were not happy. This year, we decorated, but put the handmade ornaments at the top and we didn't put on any glass ornaments. I was afraid he would think they were toys and try to play "ball" with them and break them in his mouth or swallow them.

We came home on Monday after a trip to the beach and found our tree lying on the ground and Ruby was no where to be seen - she usually comes running. Not sure if it scared her or if she had realised we weren't going to be very happy. We have also had to put ornaments on the top half of the tree only as it is just too much temptation for a little pup, have to admit it is the strangest looking tree at the moment lol.

I have not put my tree up yet. Sydney was just a little girl at Christmas last year. I will probably put it up this weekend and hope for the best. Atlas has never bothered the tree.

We also tried that moving all the ornaments to the top of the tree. I am glad to hear that others have gone to these measures. My husband said that our tree looked like it had a shirt on, but no pants. He-he!!!

We've had plenty of Xmas tree trouble with Buster. I already started by not putting a lot of ornaments up this year. Just lights, beads, pine cones, fake pointsettias (sp ??), and sporatically placed balls (although those were kept up a bit higher). Buster started out by picking out the pine cones, then he moved to pulling out the pointsettias and shredding them. We went for a couple days with no damage to the tree and I thought we were home bound. Then, yesterday, we came home from work/school to find that he had pulled a lot of the lights off the tree, and managed to knock over the gold glittery star at the top. Needless to say, we have no treetopper now. He had gold glitter all over himself (and tons in his water bowl)...goofy, goofy dog! He also knocked off some of the balls, but thankfully didn't break them. I also contribute his energy being displaced on tearing up the tree to me not walking him regularly since it's gotten so cold (my bad). That, and it's something new and entertaining!

that is cute!! no stores but we bought "shatter-proof" ornaments just in case! Suprisingly they have left the ornaments alone but keep getting into the water!!

We're putting up our tree soon and will take all of your tales to heart as we decorate. We're old hands at cat-proofing, but never really had problems with any of our dogs. I have a feeling that it might be a different ball game with a boxer. I've had cats eat the bottom string of lights (amazingly with no ill-effect), climb the tree and even sleep halfway up the tree, but they can't get their little mouths around the larger balls and ornaments as can a dog who loves to play with toys!

we have purchased all thick plastic ball ornaments because kallie thinks they are tennis balls. she also thinks that the tree is pretty tasty she has eaten all the ends of the branches as far as she can reach. She just wont leave it alone this year... which is strange because she didnt touch it last year.

This is the first year we have had a real tree. Cyrus sniffed at it a couple of times when it was first put up, but no problems. My cats are another story! I find ornaments on the floor almost every morning, with tiny cat teeth marks. Little stinkers! They only do it at night when we are sleeping!

new puppy, new tree
I did not even try to put up the usually Christmas tree this year. I used to only decorate the top half to keep Toby off of it.
Since Max is almost 11 weeks old, we decided to get a small 4 foot tree and put it on top of the coffee table. He cannot get up on that yet. So far, so good.
He is mostly interested in the TV anyway and ignores the tree.
