That pees me off and I would never go to that vet again. It would of been more professional of him to kindly ask you to have Butch in a sit / stay. I was lucky to find a vet who's owned 18 boxers in his life and completely understands them. Nikita almost always growls if she hears other dogs and alot of times she lets out a playful growl if she gets very playfully excited. I would have been offended in your situation and ask him if he suggests to muzzle the little dogs that growl in his office. When you find a new vet, make sure you ask about their experience with boxers because I had one vet tell me to shake the crap out of Nikita when she growls. Oh, and by the way because of this issue we've been told Nikita also has mental issues. Sending lots of slobbery kisses to Butch

Thank you soo much everyone for taking the time to read or respond to my thread!! You`ve all made me feel soo much better. Butch has never ever bitten anyone in his life. To be labeled as overly aggressive and sneaky...I was soo offended!! I`ll never put Butch through that again. I deeply appreciate all the advice. Thanks all!

But I'd definately change vets.

Waldo does the protective thing with me too at the vets, even though he's always happy about going.
Our vet does the same, comes and gets him from me,and then it's 100% cooperation from Waldo
jettriley,I'd find yourself another vet.

Another "Find another vet", here!! sasmeow's idea is very good. Before you take Butch for a "real" visit at your new vet, take him several times just to say "hi", get him familiar with the new place and new people. Don't forget to treat (if you use treats for training) and praise for being a good boy!

My thoughts exactly. I wonder just how they treat an animal if their owners are not there. I would feel very uneasy if one of mine had to stay in with that so called vet.

I agree. My other fear is that if your boy is considered aggressive then he will be treated like that from the instant he walks in the vet. If other dogs or animals are wait will he be singled out so the others are not put in "danger."
If you know any other Boxer owners perhaps they could tell you about a vet or two who loves this breed.

That is exactly what I`m afraid of,too. And now that she plastered that all over his chart, it will follow him wherever he goes. So, when we find a new office, and they fax his records over, they will have a preconceived opinion of him. I`ve had a night to sleep on it...and I`m just sooo angry!!! And the last time a muzzle was put on Butch, he got soo upset he threw up in!!! I`ll never allow that on him again. He doesn`t need it. I`m definitely going to look for someone who understands the breed. I`m going to call the breeder. She lives in CT, but I`m sure she must know someone. I`ll travel if I have too. I would certainly do it for my skin baby, I`ll do it for my fur babies as well. Thanks again for everyone`s support! You`ve all helped boosted my confidence that she is the crazy one...not Butch and I.

couldnt agree more
years ago my parents took our dog to have his nails clipped the asst grabs his back leg out from under him from behind!!! needless to say the dog freaked and turned to face the asst who backed up and went through the glass door of a cabinet in the room, the vet said he was vicious and would have to be muzzled next time my dad told him " dont worry there wont be a next time who the hell grabs a dog from behind and pulls their paw up. it was time for a new vet.

The only one with mental illness, is the vet. find a different vet. Only reason a dog would get a mental disorder is from all the Junk the vets pours into our fur kids(sorry starting to go on a rant)

How rude! you need to change your Vet and soon! mental illness! I can see why this upset you - I would have been in tears too!
Should you still be concerned - speak to a dog behaviourist, ask him/her to pop round and confirm that Butch is a completely normal boxer!
