Thumbs down

This past weekend Rocky and I along with 2 of his friends and their people went to Dewey Beach, Delaware. They actually allow dogs on the beach there off season. What a wonderful time we had. The people were all so dog friendly. We were welcomed everywhere, even resturants that had outside seating were all so accomodating. They brought buckets of water for the dogs and all the waiters and waitresses came out and ooed and awed over the dogs. We went to into Rehoboth (which is the sister city right next to Dewey) Sunday afternoon and walked around all the little shops, again we were so welcomed everywhere we went. People would stop us to pet the dogs and ask about them. I guess we were a sight, 1 big white boxer, a huge german shepherd and a great big golden retriever. All behaving wonderfully I might add. Rocky even got his picture taken at one of those yesteryear shops. The ones where people dress up in old time costumes. Rocky wore an indian headdress. The picture came out so great. (my little indian)They're going to put him in their book so everyone can see it.
Boy, did they have fun on the beach, running, digging playing with other dogs. There was actually a doggie happy hour at 6PM on the beach. We met a lot of new friends.
So, all of you Md, Del, PA people on the board, what a great place Delaware is. Fall is a wonderful time to go. The weather is cool but not cold. If you can get away, I would highly recommend it. Maybe next spring or fall, we can plan a boxer weekend.

Hi Dee! I am a Californian that loves Delaware. In college I spent a year a Univ. of Delaware as an exchange student and I had a blast. I even went to Rehoboth beach (dogless though!). The funny thing is that EVERY time I see a post from you I think of Delaware AND my best friend at U of D - DEE! (does your last name happen to be DiFronzo????)

A boxer day at the Beach sounds great. We have been trying to get Maryland Boxers together but it never seems to work out.

We took Wednesday to the beach this summer. We went to Topsail Island in the North Carolina Outer banks. Dogs are allowed on the beach there anytime and it isn't crowded so it is nice. Wednesday was slow to start but wound up loving it. She 1st just ran away and then she barked at the waves and then she bit the waves and the next thing we knew she was in and we couldn't get her out!

She ran in the sand and dug huge holes. She was so into her digging that she dug up some crab things and didn't even notice. The people there seem to be rather afraid of dogs but once we told them she is friendly most were okay.

We are looking forward to another beach visit!

DEE!!! I can't believe you were in DEWEY and REHOBOTH this past weekend! I work at the Crosswinds Motel on Rehoboth Ave.!! This weekend is the Grayhound Rescue Reach the beach. There were 800 dogs and people here last year, should be around 1,100 this year.

I am sad you did not come to see me

That is so crazy. I was just at Bethany beach a couple weeks ago with Rocky. Bethany is right next to Dewey. My Rocky loves to play in the sand. I lived in Delaware all my life. Delaware beaches do have many friendly people. I would love to have a boxer weekend down there. I know that alot of hotels down there allows dogs. The spring and fall are definitely the best time of year to bring your dog to the beach. You do not experience the crowds and the weather is absolutely beautiful.

I am so jealous that you all get to take your dogs to the beach. It seems to me that the beaches on the east coast are much more dog friendly. There are very few beaches on the gulf coast (MS to Panama City, FL)that welcome pets. It is a very big issue. I think the problem is that some inconsiderate people do not clean up after their pets and that makes for kind of a mess. I have seen dogs in Gulf Shores, AL but it is mostly late in the day and most have been leashed. What fun for the dog!!! Of course, if I took Indy to the beach, he would probably take off and end up no telling where! What has been anyone else's experience in that area? Am I going to the wrong place??

The South Winds Motel in Dewey takes dogs all year I think, all year. Anywho... They are the motel that hosts the Greyhound Reach the Beach weekend.

It is 3 days away!!
