Good Exercise Program for Ali & Me Too

The ball field is about 5 min. from our house and since Ali is a ballacholic the mention of the word and she's all ready to go. She carries the ball in her mouth until we reach the field and then while she has her time playing I walk all round the perimeter of the field getting my exercise. It's all fenced in and there is no chance she can wander into the street. After awhile she comes along and wants me to throw the ball for her. After that it's her training time. It's amazing how much a dog can learn from having fun. We do down stays and sits. I count to three and she knows it time to catch the ball. I also started her doing the figure 8 with her walking right beside me all the time carrying her precious ball. I put my arm out straight and gave her the directions and she was a real pro. Then we take a break and we play fetch again. We jogged around the field too and I'm training her to run right beside me. After an hour we both were pooped and strolled home with Ms. Ali carrying her precious ball in her mouth. Once we get inside the house she drops the ball and knows it's put away until next time. Ali will never be in show ring but we just love to have fun together. And that's what it's all about. She's my champion!!

That's a very nice routine you and Ali have!! It's amazing how much can be accomplished having fun - you both get some great exercise walking and playing, and Ali gets some training, and a few good burns around the ballfield, too, I'm sure!

We too have a routine like that - but have two boxers to exercise.

Luckily we have three fields that the local farmer does not mind everyone using for exercising their dogs.

You just have to be careful when there are sheep or cows in the field.

My boxer Sam does carry his ball and launch to and from the field and will insist on holding it even when he needs to pant.

The only problem we have is that the field also has a river running through, so they go paddling in the mud and sometime swim, which means we have to hose them down when we get back, or they stink the house out.

Cant say I jog but we certainly cover the ground each day.

Well, this week I started taking little Bailey (mini poodle) with me. Now Ali is quite happy to let him come along as long as she's carrying her ball otherwise she just jumps and trys to play with him while we walk. It's working out good and we haven't encountered any loose dogs on the way to the field. That might be a problem since Bailey would want to jump up in my arms as he is afraid of big dogs apart from Ali. Ali may try to protect him as well. So far so good and they both have a great time on the field chasing each other and I get to practice down stays with both of them side by side. I must say they are doing very good. They look so cute together. Ali wears her pink kerchef and Bailey a blue one. Now I get more exercise cause Bailey loves to play fetch with his duck and then Ali wants more of the action too. It's been raining for the past few days so we are house bound until tomorrow. Ali gets to go play with her boxer friend again later in the evening at the same field. Both Ali and I are on a mission to lose weight and of course I love spending time with my baby.
