They're knocked out now!

We took the babies for an ATV ride today in their new dog boxes we made that attaches to the back of our atv's. Normally they stay at home while we go for our rides but we feel so bad leaving them home while we go play. My husband designed these very awesome boxes, and the furbabies loved loved loved them! They were so filthy when we finished, a lof of dust up on the trails. Took them into the restaurant up there (dog friendly) and they got some fries and chicken strips. They got to meet some other pups, then we packed it up and headed home. Who needs a bath when you have a pool! Dunk, in they went. Annabelle was having more fun running along the side of the pool chasing the water gun shooter, and Falko stood chest high on the 2nd step enjoying life. Ahhhhh, the life. Now they're crashed out on the couch, it was a long day

Re: They're knocked out now!

The ATV pictures are in my gallery now. This week was a test run to see if the boxes we built were even going to work. The babies are harnessed in with just enough chain to let them sit up or lie down, and take a step or two to either side. Annabelle rides great, problem with Falko is that he reaches out as far as he can to try and sit on my thigh, and rests his head on my thigh making it virtually impossible to ride safely. So, my DH is going to build the 4th wall on the "box" to keep him from climbing forward onto me.

Re: They're knocked out now!

I'd love to hear how you built the boxes. My DH and I take our jeep on a lot of off-road trails, some of which are pretty steep. So far, we haven't taken Moab with us because we're not sure how to keep him safe. If you could post details on how you designed the boxes, I'd appreciate it. I'd love to see if we could adapt your idea to fit our jeep so we could take Moab along on more trail rides!

LucNesbitt, hi there. We are are totally jeeper junkies here and we 4 wheel as much as we can. My DH built a '57 Ford M38A1 and is built for serious rock crawling and 4 wheeling. We have only taken Falko jeeping to Sierra Trek in the Sierra Mountains last year as we did not have Annabelle yet. We have not figured out any type of secure platform or anything for him yet. We do have a custom built rollcage, and we put Falko in a harness and double strapped him in to the roll cage for most of the trip with me right next to him. Anything too steep or rocky both Falko and I would get out and walk because I am the PARANOID one when it comes to his safety. Now that we have Annabelle there is no way we can double the dogs in the back seat safely, so we are still thinking about that one.

For the quads, we built a 3 sided "box". We cut out a piece of wood the shape and size of the back of the quad, and covered it with a foam pad, and black rip resistant fabric type stuff. We cut out 3 walls, one for the back and 2 for the sides. You can see in my gallery that the sides are sort of scalloped so its nicer looking. Then we got some 1x2 strips of wood and cut them to size to screw all the walls to the platform. There is an eyebolt in the 1x2 piece of wood at the base of the back wall where we attach the dogs chain to. We cut a 1 and a half foot chain that will hold 520 pounds, and fastened the harness to the chain and off we go.
Speaking from experience, we are going to secure a 4th "wall" on Falkos box (my quad) because he keeps trying to climb into my lap (he's a lap dog!)
I hope this helps, just a very basic assembly, and I am sure with some imagination can be tweaked to fit the back seat of a Jeep.
Have fun jeepin'
