Unhappy My babies got attacked yesterday on our walk

Around 7:00 p.m. I took my two boys on our almost daily walk around the block. It was just myself and my two handsome boys, running around the neighborhood. Out of no where these two dogs come flying right into us and immediately attack my boys, I mean severly attacked them. Bosco had his gentle leader on and Crash just had his regular collar on. I freaked out!!

I rememberd that when this haapens to pull the other dog away by it's legs from your dog. But I couldnt' it all happened so quickly, I just started screaming and pulling the dogs away, but they just followed us and kept attacking them. Then the owner comes running out and tries to pull his dogs off mine but couldn't. FInally he pulled them off and I started crying, shaking he asked if I was OK, if I had gotten scratched or anything. I just said no, and started to walk off. He still didnlt have control of his dogs, wasn't holding onto them so I kept thinking they would come back for more and I quickly walked away. I checked my babies over and they didn't have any scratches on them or anyhting. This guy didn't even appoligize to me.

My husband and I see this guy and his dogs all the time when we go for walks. His dogs are always behind the fence barking before they even see us. And every time both my babies just ignore them, don't even look at them.

Now looking back I know I should have said something to him. I don't even know what I should do, he was always a very nice guy to us.

Anyways, this is the first time this has ever happened to us so just needing some input I guess.

Re: My babies got attacked yesterday on our walk

How scary! I'm so sorry this happened to you and your boys! Luckily, I've never been in the position you were, but I guess my advice would be to try a new walking route so you don't have to pass by the guy's house anymore. I know you'll probably have to go out of your way, but the most important thing is to keep your boys safe!

Scary! Glad to hear that your babies didn't get hurt. I worry about this when I walk Rolen. I would try walking a different route to avoid passing this guy's dogs and house again.

Just reading your post gave me chill bumps! It sounds like you, and your babies were lucky to get away without being injured. Hope you can work something out with this guy so you can walk your babies without fear!

Unhappy Re: My babies got attacked yesterday on our walk

How scary for you. I'm sorry this had to happen to your boys. I don't understand people with their unruley dogs. Jada got attacked by a pitbull when she was 4 months old. We where at my daughters house who has two well behaved pits and at the time they had a roomate with one female pit(Lucy) and she was in her room all day. The other dogs played all day with no problems. Lucy came out of her room and Jada went to go see her and the dog attacks Jada out of nowhere and puts puctures all over Jada. Blood was everywhere. She put a pucture on the top of her nose and she was sneezing and shaking her head. The owner had a hard time controlling her and getting her off Jada.Thank God we were all standing right there or who knows what could of happened. I was so upset. I thought Jada would be afraid of other dogs but shes not. A few days later I had to take Jada to the vet because some of the wounds looked swollen. They put her on Antiboitics and it cost me 150.00. The owner of the dog didn't even offer to pay or ask how Jada was. Some nerve.

Re: My babies got attacked yesterday on our walk

So glad that no one was hurt. It sounds a bit as if the owner was caught off guard as well, perhaps he had an unlatched gate or the like. I'm certainly not trying to make an excuse here, just sounds very traumatic for all involved.

I would suggest trying to find another route if at all possible. Hopefully, the other owner will seriously work with training his dogs to be much more tolerant of other dogs walking by.

If you are so inclined, you might want to stop by with DH and talk with the man, (if you got the impression that he would be friendly) and suggest that training would be beneficial not only to neighbors and anyone walking by his house but to his own dogs themselves. It could also well save him from a lawsuit. Often that's the bit that gets someone's attention.

Take care.

How scary for you!!!!!!!!! OMG! Thank goodness you and your babies walked away without a scratch! I agree that maybe you should stop sometime and just talk with the guy if he seems friendly! You and your babies deserve to be able to take care-free walks without being attacked!

Re: My babies got attacked yesterday on our walk

To be honest, you should call your local animal control and report the incident. Otherwise if they attack someone else, there is no record of your attack. If they have the potential to be dangerous please take the time to call.
If nothing else, animal control will get in touch with the man and let him know that he needs to better control and secure his animals. It's not about punishing the dogs, it's about letting him know that he needs to be a responsible owner if he wishes to keep them.

Re: My babies got attacked yesterday on our walk

Max was attacked by a dog up the street from me a couple of years ago. Same dog also got out and attacked my neighbor and her 2 dogs. They called the police but nothing happened because it was a dog to dog attack. Even so, you should report it - so if it happens again maybe they will do something. I always carry Direct Stop with me. It's in a small can like mace but it is citronella spray and doesn't hurt the dogs but they don't like the scent of it and it is supposed to stop them. Fortunately, I've never had to use it so I can't really say how good it works.
