So here's Leia's "arrival" story...

She was dropped off here at about 5pm this evening. Her initial reaction to me was a LOUD "WOOF!"...which was COMPLETELY my fault. Instead of lowering my eyes some, I was so excited, I looked DIRECTLY at her. (I'm a dumb bunny, I know.)

After that initial woof, she pretty much checked things out. We were outside, and there were a lot of kids around - her nub just started GOING! She was VERY well mannered, and I was telling the kids to get back some - I didn't want to risk having her crowded. Once we came inside, she did a quick checking out of the house, the cat litter (ick), and her feeding area.

It was really only once we got inside that I really noticed *just* how thin she really is. I know it's hard to tell in her pictures, but you can *easily* make out all of her ribs. At her bum, right abover her tail, her hip bones jut out. It's sad. All of the muscles in her legs are very clearly defined.

Anyway, being underweight aside (as we'll obviously be working on that RIGHT away), she's a complete and utter DREAM. Well behaved, listens like nothing I've ever seen, walks on the leash as though it's not even there...just a FABULOUS girl. She's gentle, and very patient. Cash was VERY excited to meet her, and wanted to jump all over - Leia pretty much just gave him the "Peon! You must wait until *I* say this is appropriate!" look. One thing I noticed - Cash is RUDE!! Not with people, but with other dogs. Whoo boy. I think she'll be remedying that - you could tell she wasn't impressed with his puppy-antics.

I'm honestly a little upset about her weight. The lady who dropped her off mentioned her being "stressed out" and having a hard time getting her to eat - she has had NO such issues here. I'm trying *very* hard to not judge, as I don't know the whole story, obviously, but well...it's hard. You'd never know that today was her first day here, and she has eaten (including from my hand) without a single, solitary issue. Perhaps it's the atmosphere - I really don't know. What I *do* know is that when I take her to the vet on Saturday, I'll be finding out for sure how much she weighs, and going from there.

Okay! Well that's our first update (I've already posted pictures twice...not that I'm excited or anything...*whistles innocently*...). I'm sure I'll be back again soon, talking about my kids.

Congratulation on the new dog Leia. She sounds like she will fit in well.

Leia weight could really just be the way she is. I feed my Layla all she wants. She probably eats a third more than Brody, my male. But she looks just like you described Leia, her hips bones stick out and you can see all her ribs. Layla is a very active dog and is very muscular. I just can't get the weight on her.

Re: So here's Leia's "arrival" story...

Welcome to your new home Leia

She looks and sounds a lot like our Sophie when we first got her - she was also very underweight and it wasn't until she was next to our boxer boy you could see how little muscle she had, she couldn't keep up with him at all. You'll see a difference in her pretty quickly - sounds like she's going to fit in with you all great!

Me too!
Did you guys get her from a rescue? Private party? I guess I don't know her whole story... I'll have to do a search! Anyways, glad you have her, she sounds like she's fitting in perfectly.
