Boxer Playtime at Petsmart!

Took Grumpy to Petsmart tonight & she met a beautiful reverse brindle girl named Brooke, exactly her age but a LOT bigger. This was her first boxer play and it was definitely a new experience for her! All of her regular playmates are boys, they're all older than her, and about twice her size. When they play fight with Grumpy they let her win a lot of the time. . . box and jump around and then roll over, letting her climb all over them and bite their ears. So she thinks she is quite the little fighter, she'll prance around the park with her nose in the air like queen of the world.
Well this boxer girl Brooke had no intention of letting Grumpy win. . . About 3 seconds of boxing and she'd have Grumpy pinned to the floor, jaws on her neck, like "whatcha gonna do about it?" Grumpy has been pinned by her boyfriends before but they always let her up right away. Tonight she looked up at me, mommy help!!!, with these big wide eyes. So everytime Brooke's parents would pull her off, and Grumpy would go over and try to kiss Brooke, and end up back on the floor.
We gave both girls tons of pets and kisses when they finally got tired and flopped over on the floor. I'm wasn't sure Grumpy even knew that she had just gotten her cute little behind kicked. But since we got home she has had this sheepish look on her face. . . too funny! Just had to share.

Re: Boxer Playtime at Petsmart!

Funny but the trainer at Petsmart here has a boxer, Sweetpea, and on Saturday sometimes Greb and I go up and they box in the training area for up to 45 minutes, virtually nonstop. In the beginning Greb, being 3 months younger was getting pinned regularly but as he has grown and caught up with her size-wise, it is now 50-50. But the great thing about their play and maybe this is common for boxers, they don't really care who "wins" it is just great fun. There is never even a growl, no matter how tired they are. They can draw a small crowd oohing and ahing over their graceful energetic play.

I think your experience is a lot like mine and you don't seem to care who "wins," either. That's the attitude that carries the day and could be emulated by others. Can you imagine if our species could fight without anger or caring who won and no one really got hurt?

I don't think boxers care if they had their butts kicked as long as they had fun!!!!
