Reflections on our first year with Lucy!
So about this time last year we brought home our first ever puppy, a boxer named Lucy. We had been planning on getting a dog as soon as we got married but we didn't expect to get one the very week after the wedding! Luck had it that we came across her at the perfect time.
I was worried we wouldn't get to take her home because the sneaky girl that she is, she got out of the kennel that she and her littermates were kept in and got outside in the freezing cold! The breeder found her not moving, and whimpering. When we went to meet her that same day she was nice and warm but VERY tired. That was no indication as to the active pup she turned out to be.
The night we brought her home she was nervous (as were we), but we all fell in love with each other instantly. That first night she cried and cried in the kitchen but when we peeked in on her, she was crying and playing at the same time!!! We eventually moved her into the bedroom in her crate.
Keeping her into the kitchen when we were away didn't last long as she learned to climb over the extra tall baby gate we had! We moved her into the bathroom instead but she destroyed it! She is now a happily crated dog!
After all the bell training and tricks, she has become a part of our family. Our parents call her the "grand dog". She has enriched our relationship and our lives. All the little things she does brings a smile on my face. Sometimes I can't help but look at her and just sigh at how much I love her. Right now she is laying at my feet under my desk, as she has done ever since she was a puppy.
The only thing that I wish is that we had another pup to add to our family! We are planning to get another one as soon as we buy a house, and I am counting down the days. I can't wait to have another boxer and begin the process all over again!
