Stray Dog Incident (long)
Yesterday when I was running around with Carter in this field down the street from my house I noticed a black image (i didn't have my glasses on) the second loop around, and after looking closer I noticed it was a dog. The dog started approaching me and Carter who was off the leash and I kind of start freaking out, especially because I looked like a pitbull mixed with something like a black lab or rottweiler. Detroit has a problem with tons of backyard breeding of pits and lots of dog fighting so I was very scared for Carter. I'm trying to call Carter and get him away so the other dog doesn't attack him, then what happens..... Carter goes into boxer mode and runs towards this dog and starts playing with it. I'm freaking out and Carter is acting like a clown. He was in heaven to find a playmate, even though this other dog wasn't too much into playing, he also wasn't doing Carter any harm. I was still kind of tense the whole time because I didn't want the either of them to snap and start fighting. Finally I lured Carter back to the leash and we started walking home. The stray dog really seemed like he wanted to come with us, but I had to leave him behind. Looking back I kind of feel like a sissy, but I was really scared that something was going to happen to Carter.

I understand, I would've been the same. I would be totally horrified to see one of mine attacked. I have stopped taking Ruby over to the field where she would play with other dogs, a regular there, an American Bulldog turned on this black Labrador, I was so scared I haven't been back since, it took 3 men to separate them. I am glad Carter is ok, you can't be too careful

If I don't know a dog I am weary Pit bulls must be muzzled in Ontario. Most Pit Bull owners keep them muzzled when in public you don't ever see them loose. But the Golden Retriever next to us broke out of her yard and came into mine and attacked Foreman for no reason so you just never know which dog is nice and which isn't.

Its better to be careful then sorry! The german shepherd across the street from us attacked us one day out for no reason. Mine were on leashes so I had control of them but the shepherd took a big chunk our of my shoe My boys just sat and watched the whole time like, what is this all about mom? Could have been worse I guess!!

Bruno only playes with dogs that we know. It was a strange dog last week that attacked his friend Elmo. There is about 6 dogs that all meet and walk in the doggy park. Bruno gets on ok with all of these. I really worry that someone (A dog) will take Bruno's boxing as aggression and bite back.

When I was living at my apartment building, I came home late one night with Kaybie and parked and got out. The lighting in the parking lot was terrible so it was very dark. We started walking toward the door to my building and something caught my eye in the darkness in the parking lot. I looked over and about 15 feet from us stood this big black dog just staring at us. I freaked out. The funny part was that Kaybie hadn't even noticed the dog at that point. My truck was closer to me than the building enterance so I ran back full force to the truck and hauled Kaybie in by the collar. I had barely gotten my door slammed shut behind me when I look out the window and this dog is standing at my car door. Then Kaybie spotted the dog and started barking and flipping out inside my car. So there I sat trapped in my car and not sure what to do. The dog just kept walking around my car. So then I decided to see if he was friendly and I lowered my window a tiny bit and tried calling him. As soon as I did this, the dog freaked and took off running into the darkness, so I figured there was nothing else I could do, so I grabbed Kaybie and we ran inside. Then a little while later, my ex-BF came over and I was telling him about this incidence with the dog. He just gave me a sad look and told me that as he was pulling up, there were cars stopped in the road in front of my apartment complex (it was on a busy road) and that there was a black dog laying in the street and had been hit by one of the cars. My heart sunk. I couldn't help but feel partly responsible becuase I ran from him rather than seeing if he was friendly. That was several months ago and I still think about that poor doggy sometimes. =(

I kind of feel bad as well, because the dog was kind of following back home from a distance because I kept shouting trying to scare him off. But now I keep thinking how cold and hungry he probably is. I guess you can't help everybody (or every dog) huh?

These stories are sad!!.. When i take Revan for walks i bring mace with me just in case a stray dog tries to attack me or him..Thank god i have never had to use it . It would break my heart to have to use it on an animal. It wouldnt be the stray dogs fault, It would be its owners fault!!
