My guard dogs
I just have to share a story with ya'll that happened last night.
So I finish my dinner (~8:30pmish....these 12hr days at work are killing me) anyhow, I settle back into my chair to watch Eureka (sci-fi series ) And Drake gets behind my chair....kaite is on the other side of my chair. Both are focused on each other (i believe) so after trying for close to 30mins to ignore them and tell Kaite to stop growling. I get up Move the chair completely out of the way and say "SEE NO FOOD! now stop this and go play" Boy I was really fed up with this, and about to crate the 2 of them for a 10min "mommy time out" so I kick up the dog bed I have behind my chair and guess what skitters out from under it? A SCORPION! a little one ~2in's from head to tip of tail. So after about 2 mins of hemming and hawing...dancing around my living room like a nutcase wishing for the Knight in Shining Armor to come to my rescue, I realize: I live alone! So two choices: let the bug run around my house or kill it myself. So I slip off my flip flop (Mind you I am also trying to keep two VERY interested boxers from sniffing this creature) and bash the daylights out of the scorpion. Then I slide a very long sheet of paper under him, set the paper down on the kitchen floor tiles, get another sheet of paper and place it on top....then I did the "yucky yucky bug" dance on the paper.........thereby making a 3 dimensional creature into a 2 dimensional one
My kids got a couple of ice cubes for thier guarding skills. Darned scorpion was under my chair *shudder*

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too.

ok imagine and overweight, middle aged woman who is deathly afraid of any bug but also doesnt want any bug guts on her newly washed kitchen floor. Now put her in flip flops and thin cotton capris, and have the only piece of paper available be the one with potential adopters phone number which has already been erased from the answering machine. Now let's assume that the smashing on the carpet actually killed this bug since it didnt move when I slid the paper under it......so that means the dance on the tile is overkill. Ahhh...but trust me if there had been anyone there to film this, they would have killed the bug!!! while I waited in the bathroom with the door closed and a towel shoved under the door!

Oh the visual - perfect, Thank you! I know what you mean about the "over-kill", I can't pick up dead bugs - I have this phobia that they will "magically" spring back to life and get their "bugness" on me. I am a "Super-Sissy" when it comes to cockroaches.
Thanks for the giggle,

Kudos for Drake and Katie. This is why I'll stay on the east coast. No scorpions, tarantulas for me, thank you. Grant it I have to deal with Copperhead snakes and Rattle snakes if I go to the "Mountains" and Water Moccasins in some remote lakes. Most of which is few and far in between.

That is just so nasty.
I know the bug dance well. Been doing it myself my whole life.
I would not have been able to keep my dog or cat away from it!!!! They are a tag team. The cat spots the critter, the dog gets it to the ground and then the play and real fun starts.......
I cover all bugs up that I see with a cup of some sort and then proceed to put something heavy on top of the cup to make sure they stay under it and far away from me. This is AFTER I have sprayed them with hair spray. LOL
DH was out of town a couple years ago and I trapped a spider. It stayed under the cup for the entire week he was gone, smack dab in the middle of my family room. When he came home and saw the cup he asked me what I trapped? He lifted up the cup and the spider was flat on his back with all of his little legs pointed straight up in the air. I killed him, may he rest in peace.
I don't do bugs.

When I was young, we always had cats in the house. My dad hated cats(he is a dog person), but he wasn't going to tell his four girls that they could not have cats.
We had gone out to eat one night and when we came home my dad was vegging in his chair and all the cats were swarming over and around him. It was driving him crazy. He told us to get the cats out of the room. We were gathering them all up and I took a quick peek under his chair to make sure we had them all. I came face to face with a skunk. I started screaming skunk!, skunk!, pointing under his chair. The place was total mayhem with all us girls screaming and running around in circles.
My dad calmly gets up and gets a broom. He lifts up the chair and sweeps the skunk out of the house (his chair was only 2 feet from the door). We all need heroes like that for the critters in the world. Of course he never gripped about the cats again and we never knew how the skunk got in the house.
You were really brave facing that scorpion without backup.
