Should I say "Thank You"?????
This is a silly question, but I'm quite puzzled by it.
When you're out with your boxer, and someone comments how beautiful they are, do you say "Thank You?"
We took Legend to the park yesterday, and a man approached us. He said he has a female boxer and he went on and on talking about them. He couldn't praise Legend enough, he kept saying "He is a GORGEOUS dog...look at those paws! He's gonna be a big one...he's a beautiful color...that red/fawn is just beautiful....yes, he came from some beautiful parents"...etc.etc
Of course, we soaked it up like beaming parents, and I said "Thank you" but I feel funny saying it because its not like WE had anything to do with the way he looks. (that's genetics! )
I don't know...I just feel funny saying it. It happens all the time too...at Petsmart, on a walk, at a Boxer Bash, at the park...
Should we say "Thank you", or just agree with them?

We always get compliments on LC and Joey when we go for walks and always say "Thank-you"! I guess we are just proud of them and appreciate the compliment!

Yes to "Thank You"
Zeus also gets alot of attention and compliments when we go out. I definately say, "thank you" to compliments because I feed him, care for him, love him. All of these things are the reasons our fur babies are healthy, happy, and beautiful!

THAAANNNNK YOOOOU!
I ALWAYS SAY THANK YOU OR I MAKE A BABY VOICE AND MAKE COLA SAY THANK YOU WHICH THE PERSON LAUGHS AT. THEY ALWAYS SAY COLA HAS A BEAUTIFUL FACE....I SAY JUST LIKE HER MOMMY...HEE HEE MEANING ME OF COURSE
AND I AGREE WITH THREAD THAT SAYS IT IS A COMPLIMENT BECAUSE WE TAKE GOOD CARE OF THEM, SPEND THE TIME GROOMING THEM AND PAYING SPECIAL ATTENTION TO THEIR DIET, I THINK WE DESERVE TO HEAR THAT OUR FURBABIES ARE GORGEOUS - IT'S A REPRESENTATION OF US

I always said Thank You. Although you didnt have anything really to do with the way he came out. He is your "pride and joy".

Yes say thank you!! When someone compliments you about your shoes or clothes you say thank you-although you didnt have anything to do with making it-you had the good sence to pick it out-just like your boxer!!!!!

I've had that same thought!! It seems the only civilized thing to do, saying thank you. Next time I'll try the funny voice trick. What a giggle that'll be!

It's also thanking them for expressing a complimentary thought. When we thank people for being nice, it shows them that it was appreciated. So don't feel awkward about it at all. "Thank you, how nice of you say it. I think he's/she's lovely too."

say thank you!
a similar thought: my husband has a hang up when it comes to responding to "I love you." he'll never say "i love you, too" in reply. instead he says "thank you." if he's feeling really expansive, he'll say "thank you for sharing your feelings."
when you say thank you, it isn't necessarily a way of taking credit. sometimes it's thanking them for being positively expressive.
(after all, wouldn't you at least want to say soemthing if the strangers said "what an ugly dog!"?)
