Baby Fat?

Hey guys......just wondering a couple things. First....my Cyrus is 10 months old and is already 70lbs and 26 inches tall. It trips me out because his mother was about 40lbs and his dad about 75 or 80 so I can't believe he's this big already. His head is getting bigger and he seems to be filling out more and more each day but he still doesn't seem to be getting that boxer muscle that you see with most males. Is he still too young for that kind of muscle development. I don't think I'm overfeeding him. He's on a good food and we exercise on a daily basis. He isn't fat.....still see last couple of ribs but he isn't defined either. He is more of a sleek build like his father but he was very muscular. Thanks for answering...

P.S.......I love this site.....you guys need a t-shirt I can buy!!!!!

I wouldn't expect to see well-defined muscles until he's about 2 years old. Of course it is possible that he may fill out sooner than that (or even later), but 2 years is generally when you can expect to see the adult physique. Boxers younger than 2 years are still considered to be puppies, and most are pretty lanky up until they reach maturity. My female, Caney, first started to fill out around age 1.5; she's now 2.5 yrs and still I notice little things about her physique that are still changing.

From your description, Cyrus sounds to be right on track. And he's 70 lbs already?? BOY, is he gonna be BIG!

Just out of curiosity, how much are you feeding him and how much/what sort of exercise is he doing?

Right now he gets 2 cups of Chicken Soup in the morning and evening. Since he's still pretty young i really don't take him on any extended runs or anything like that....trying to be careful with his jojnts and bones. I usually take him for a walk in the morning and then about 30 minute of free running and chasing the ball around in the evening. I try to tire him out so that we can work on his recall and commands....I'm open to any suggestions though......what do you think?.....could I be overfeeding him?

My boy is also 10 months old and weighs 70 lbs although only about 24 inches at the withers. He was a big boy from the beginning and goes through really fast growth spurts but hasn't gained any weight in the last month and a half or so. He is also on the thinner side (as far as muscle maturity goes) anddefinitely appears thinner now since his last spurt and I am too waiting for him to fill out but I know that's not to be expected until around 2 years of age like caneycreek stated.

My boy Buster hit 70 lbs early, but basically stopped at a year, then just began putting on muscle for the next year. He weighs 75 lbs. now and is just a big tall boy. His dad was 80, his mom was 60 lbs. His looks changed so much from 1 yr to 2 yrs of age. His head got larger, he got more muscular and he grew into his snout. I was worried that he would have a longer muzzle than he should have, but he grew into it and it measures as it should. It's amazing the change they go through.
