colour of eyes

Hello, my question is the following; are all boxers born with brown eyes or do some grow into them? My 6 week old puppy has kind of cloudy blueish eyes. Is that normal? Thanks a lot .

Yes, that is normal. They darken (turn brown) with age.
The eyes should end up being darker than their coat color.

I am picking up my new baby this week. He is a white boxer and right now his eyes are the cloudy blue puppy colour, what I was wondering is do all boxers eyes turn brown or is there a chance his eyes will stay blue because he is white.

thanks Jennifer and Diablo

Thank you for your quick reply. I am happy to learn that my puppy does not have a strange eye disease and is quite normal.

For those with a brindle or red (fawn) puppy you'd be expecting a change from blue to brown from around 10 - 12 weeks.

The same is usually true for whites although it is more common for them to have a blue eye into adulthood.

The blue colouring in adults is due to the presence of the D (dilution) series of genes of which Willis and Cattanach both report boxers carry

D = Intense pigmentation
d = Dilution of Pigment

When dd is present extreme dilution is possible and this is where the whites sometimes get the blue eye from

*Cloudy* blue corneas can be a side-effect of the adenovirus vaccination (included in the standard cocktail). These usually self-correct in a few to several weeks.
